The irony is impossible to miss. @MONUSCO's new chief is here. With a better polished speech than his predecessors. The @UN apparatus that backed #Operation_Turquoise 🇫🇷 and the wider policies between 1990-19994 again reappears as guardians of regional "peace operations," while survivors of the 1994 Genocide Against The Tutsi are forced to battle denial, euphemism, and selective memory. The same international culture that "failed" to stop catastrophe now rewards itself with titles, new mandates, and moral language. Now cameras appear, speeches flow, and the same international machinery wants applause for "supporting ceasefires & protecting civilians" and congratulating ex-FDLR fighters for leaving hardship in the forest of Eastern DRC 🇨🇩. The hardship was never the forest. The hardship was allowing a genocidal terrorist network to survive for decades while civilians paid the price. International institutions don't reckon with their record. They simply rename their authority. Rwandans 🇷🇼 bury our loved ones while the system promotes the perpetrators.

Goma is under the administration of AFC/M23, not Tshisekedi. The era in which the destiny of Congolese citizens could be dictated by the decisions of a few, without the participation of the people themselves, is over. There is not humanitarian crisis, the humanitarian crisis is in Uvira and beyond.

4) Another of #Onana’s witnesses was Gen Jean-Claude #Lafourcade, the top commander of French forces engaged in #Operation_Turquoise from June 22 to August 22, 1994. These French military officers cooperated with the authorities involved in the genocide.

3) The court examined #Onana's writings in his book, "#Rwanda, the truth about #Operation_Turquoise" (#Paris, 2019, éditions du #Toucan). #Onana’s books have negationist statements, calling into question the 1994 Genocide against the #Tutsi in #Rwanda, in particular when he claims “if it were still necessary, that the conspiracy theory of a #Hutu regime having planned a 'genocide' in #Rwanda constitutes one of the biggest scams of the 20th century".

7) These men support #Onana for he wants to help hide their their complicity in the genocide. Their support of the genocidal government that carried out the mass slaughter, and #Operation_Turquoise, is not something they want known by the public.

6) Among his other most trusted witnesses in the trial are other soldiers, who were present during the 1994 Genocide against the #Tutsi, part of the United Nations Assistance Mission for #Rwanda (#UNAMIR), and French soldiers involved in #Operation_Turquoise. Col Luc #Marchall, Gen Christian #Quesnot, Gen Jean Claude #Lafourcade, Gen Didier #Tauzin, Col Michel #Robardey, Col Jacques #Hogard, are all names on the long list of soldiers who will take the stand to defend #Onana.
