In fact, this could be the subject of a doctoral thesis… but let’s look at two classic examples in the fruit & veg production:
-Environmental / Health /Phytosanitary rules (#PPPs)
In the #EU, substances such as #chlorpyrifos have been fully banned since 2020 due to #health and #environmental risks. In #Morocco, these substances are still used in horticultural production (#tomatoes & #peppers) This lowers production costs (fewer treatments, cheaper inputs) while products enter the EU market without having complied with equivalent environmental standards.

In #Spain, the #agricultural minimum wage is €1,221/month, plus approx. & 30% employer social contributions, resulting in a real cost of ~€1,587/month per worker.
In #Morocco, the agricultural minimum wage is around €220–240/month, with very limited employer social charges.
This creates a cost gap of €1,350+/worker/month in labour‑intensive crops such as #tomatoes or #berries. These are not abstract concerns but measurable differences in regulatory and cost conditions, without effective mirror clauses applied at EU market entry.
