Even the eve of the launch day was filled with suspense, something WE will never forget, but have now decided to leave behind... So, there are three people in this pic -- Balaji, #NLCA & a mad man. The depths of this very special hug can't be measured, but A&D legends like #GuruKota, Shyam Chetty, @DRDO_India Chairman Dr Kamat & family members of Balaji would certainly know that this a gold-class moment! In my 3-decades-plus-Journalism, the #LCA project gifted me several gurus like Balaji, who to me is amongst the most down-to-earth-souls one would find on this planet. His (@CDBalaji119096) undying passion and priceless contribution towards building a carrier-borne-home-grown-aircraft is unbelievable and definitely cannot be mapped in a book! While I was completely grounded in the last two years with multiple ortho-related snags, it was #P2F that kept my engine running, even on low fuel. #Paper2Flight #P2F 🇮🇳 | Press Release Book on LCA Navy ‘Paper to Flight’ released; It will inspire future brains, say aerospace experts Bengaluru, Oct 19: Paper to Flight, a book that captures the design story of India’s carrier-borne fighter (LCA Navy), authored by former ADA Director Cmde C D Balaji (Retd) was released on Saturday in city. The book, published by Delhi-based Pentagon Press, is the first ever book on the LCA Navy programme, developed jointly by ADA, HAL and the Indian Navy. Proud of the team: Dr Aatre Speaking on the occasion, Dr V K Aatre, former DRDO chief, recalled the early days of the programme right from moving the Cabinet note for approval. “I remember having asked the ADA team to prepare a chart for programme monitoring, which was very crucial. The naval project gave us so much insights that paved way for several technological breakthroughs. I am proud that our team successfully developed many critical systems for naval LCA, including the landing gear and arrester hook,” Dr Aatre said. Book a delight: Guru Kota Dr Kota Harinarayana, former ADA Director, listed out how the Indian Navy backed the naval programme right from the word go. “I was lucky to go through the manuscript of Paper to Flight. The book will be a delight for future generations, considering it has captured every aspect of a complex programme in detail and in a language easily understood by the layperson,” Dr Kota said. Fortunate to be part of NLCA: Balaji Author of the book Cmde Balaji (Retd) started by acknowledging support of various entities for the LCA Navy programme. He said that he was fortunate to have been part of the entire journey right from obtaining the Cabinet approval in 2003 right up to its flight test stage. “When the programme started, it was anticipated that the changes from the IAF version to the Naval version would be of the order of 15 to 20 per cent. This assumption turned out to be flawed and had to go through significant changes,” Cmde Balaji (Retd), said. He recounted examples of the changes to the landing gear, arrester hook installation, structure among others during his talk. He also recounted development of special test facilities, like the aircraft structural rigs, the Shore Based Test Facility at Goa and the like. Rama Balaji, wife of Cmde Balaji (Retd) and Cdr Karthik Balaji, son of the author read a few passages from the book. Sonali K Balaji, who designed the cover of the book, was also present. J Jadhav, DG (ADA), spoke about the inspiring content in the book and said that it would be a useful guide to the next generation of scientists and engineers. Rajan Arya, CEO of Pentagon Press spoke about his experience in bringing out Paper to Flight. He hoped that this would spread the message among the public about typical challenges in indigenous design and development. Bold undertaking: Admiral Arun Prakash Former Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Arun Prakash (Retd) said in a message that the LCA Navy project was unique in many respects. “Conversion of a shore-based aircraft into a carrier variant was, a bold undertaking, fraught with risk and uncertainty; a challenge that not many organizations would have taken up. The ultimate success of this undertaking has demonstrated the confidence and ingenuity of Indian designers, engineers, scientists and flight-test personnel,” Admiral Arun Prakash said. Inspiring Balaji: Mao Cmde Jaideep Maolankar (Retd), former Chief Test Pilot of LCA Navy, spoke about the joint struggles of the team in developing the aircraft. “Cmde Balaji’s single-minded focus for the programme despite significant challenges is something everyone should emulate,” Cmde Mao (Retd) said. The launch also saw very emotional moments when the author handed over a copy of the book to his mother Amrita Devnath (88). Book on LCA Navy ‘Paper to Flight’ released; It will inspire future brains, say aerospace experts

Bengaluru, Oct 19: Paper to Flight, a book that captures the design story of India’s carrier-borne fighter (LCA Navy), authored by former ADA Director Cmde C D Balaji (Retd) was released on Saturday in city. The book, published by Delhi-based Pentagon Press, is the first ever book on the LCA Navy programme, developed jointly by ADA, HAL and the Indian Navy.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr V K Aatre, former DRDO chief, recalled the early days of the programme right from moving the Cabinet note for approval. “I remember having asked the ADA team to prepare a chart for programme monitoring, which was very crucial.
