Akbar Belthangady, President of the Social Democratic Party of India (#SDPI) Belthangady Assembly Constituency Committee, has strongly condemned an incident in #Peradi, near #Venur, #Belthangady taluk.
A group of drunkards allegedly attempted to incite communal hatred under the guise of a program called "Purushakattuna," where Islamic practices and the #ProphetMuhammad (PBUH) were mockingly and obscenely depicted.
In a press release, Akbar stated that a similar incident had occurred days earlier, prompting the party to file a complaint at the Venur police station. Though an FIR was registered, the police adopted a lenient approach, allegedly enabling the accused to repeat such acts. He accused the police of negligence, as they failed to act decisively despite the complaint.
He highlighted that the #SupremeCourt mandates police to suo motu register cases against hate speech and communal provocations. However, the #VenurPolice’s inaction has allowed such incidents to recur.
Akbar warned that if the police delay filing a case this time, the accused might exploit #Hindu religious programs to spread distrust about #Hinduism and defame #Islam again.
Asserting that the SDPI will not remain silent, Akbar declared plans to launch an intense struggle involving all citizens and file a private lawsuit against both the accused and the police for failing to register the case.
A disturbing incident involving a group of miscreants disrespecting religious sentiments by wearing Muslim religious attire and women’s clothing to mock the community has been reported in #Karnataka's #DakshinaKannada district.
The incident occurred during an event organized by members of the #Hindu community in #Venur, #Beltangadi taluk. Reports suggest that the act was deliberately aimed at ridiculing the Muslim community. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
At a location called #Purusarakatte in Venur, the individuals wore Muslim attire and women’s clothing, performed derogatory dances, and disrespected religious symbols. They allegedly staged a ruckus while dressed in these outfits, openly mocking religious practices.
Additionally, the video shows a youth holding a flag of the Social Democratic Party of India (#SDPI).
Speaking to media, the Venur Police Station Inspector stated, “We received a complaint about actions that hurt Muslim religious sentiments. However, during the annual Purusarakatte festival, people traditionally dress in various costumes and perform dances. This time, a burqa was included. We have registered a complaint and sought guidance from the Assistant Deputy Commissioner (ADC). Further action will follow based on their response.”
