– ‘G4 model’ talks about the addition of 6 nations as #PermanentMembers to the existing UNSC — 2 from Asia, 2 from Africa, 1 from Latin America & 1 from Western Europe.
– It advocates the need for greater representation of various regional groupings as Non-Permanent members
– It calls for review of the #UNSC membership every 15 yrs
– The model also shows flexibility on the contentious issue of the #Veto power for new permanent members.
With groupings like #G20, #BRICS and the concept of #GlobalSouth fast growing in prominence, the UNSC, which is now 80 years without a review, will only further lose its ineffectiveness and prove to be a paper tiger.
