Back in 1992, Rob Liefeld and Todd McFarlane, the bad boys of comics, decided to leave safe projects that gave them fame and fortune, to bet on themselves, to create their own comic company and Image Comics was born! In their first year Image had: Youngblood, Spawn, Wildcats, Cyberforce, Savage Dragon and each one was a hit! Such a great, great time for comic fans! “Where we’re you in ‘92?” (I still love that phrase) Things couldn’t get any better, artists were revolting from the mainstream, the industry was on FIRE, comic artists were getting rich and had all the power! About a year into this mad house another creator joined Image Comics, Dale Keown, world famous Hulk artist, and he was bringing something new: PITT and like the others, a monster hit! Pitt left a deep impression on me as a kid, not just with its violent, veined, clawed, chained, double lit, hulking lead, not just the explosive colors, but also in how an established artist can continue to push their work to a higher levels. Most artists stagnate, but Dale, to this day, has continued to level up. 20 years later, I was asked by Rob Liefeld to draw one of my childhood favorites: Youngblood! It was going back home to Image for the 20th anniversary, but that’s another story. At some point, mid-run, I got a chance to design some disposable bad guys, so, I jumped to homage a brood of PITT-like creatures, raising Hell on a street I labeled “Keown.” Then, years later I created RUINER in the pages of Graveyard Shift, all because of the impact Pitt left on me as a kid. I just wanted to draw some PITT! It had to be remembered! Years later still, and here we are, hanging every week with our friend Dale. One of the greatest talents that ever walked this Earth. We’re so blessed and must always remember that we stand on his shoulders every day. Now, Pitt is finally in careful and considerate hands and being collected and launched. Others, losers, anonymous and not, untalented and unloved, nobodies, proudly failed creators that stand not on shoulders but on our coattails, will try to drag this campaign and those involved through the mud, they want this campaign to fail, as some sort of symbol to their “power/influence” some will even falsely claim to love Dale as they gladly drag him if it means they can be “right” and hurt others.
