Latest #pomolibrary addition: 'A Drink for its Time, Farm Cider Making in the Western Counties' by Michael B. Quinion. Published by the Museum of Cider, Hereford, 1979. Blast from the past, @homeofcider?

My latest #pomolibrary acquisition - 'The Complete Book of British Berries' by David C Lang. I'm sure Mr @stewartwaine will be wondering why the heck it took me so long to grab myself a copy of this one π

One more for the #pomolibrary: 'The Pruning of Hardy Fruit Trees' (1947 reprint) by Henry Dunkin. Very technical, very detailed, very interesting indeed. Sections on Lorette, Modified Lorette, formation pruning, spur thinning and lots more.

Another new #pomolibrary addition: 'Apples - History, Folklore, Horticulture and Gastronomy' (1975) by Peter Wynne. Apple lore, history, growing info and a big section of apple recipes. Looking forward to getting stuck into this one.

New #pomolibrary acquisition: 'Fruit Bud Development Illustrated by a Series of Charts' (1947) UK govt pamphlet. Several sets of rather lovely watercolours of developing bud stages: apple, pear, plum, cherry, blackcurrant, gooseberry, raspberry.

A new #pomolibrary addition! 'Medlars, Growing and Cooking' by Jane Steward @EastgateLarder.
This one's going straight to the top of my 'to be read next' pile π π

A new #pomolibrary addition and it's one I've been after for 3 or 4 years: 'The Lorette System of Pruning'. This is the English trans. 2nd edtn 1946. Usually about Β£90, this copy much less due to tatty dust jacket. It's the info I want though and the pages are perfect. πππ

Just one more addition to the #pomolibrary this week: 'Fruit, an Illustrated History' (2003) by Peter Blackburn-Maze. An enormous coffee-table book packed full of gorgeous fruit prints from pomonas of yore. Absolutely lovely πππ

Just for @trihyc who asked to see pics, here's the current state of my #pomolibrary, now at 4 full billies* in extent. (Although it won't be staying at that size for too long, knowing me...)
*A billy = a unit of measurement of one standard Ikea 'Billy' bookcase shelf... π

Meanwhile, this batch of #pomolibrary additions all came from the same eBay seller (who must have been selling someone else's pomolibrary). That's my next six months' pomology reading sorted. Now to work out how to shelve everything in my already over-occupied pomobookcase π

Here are a couple more recent additions to my #pomolibrary, both gained on our trip to Hereford and Hay-on-Wye last week: Charles Martell's 'Native Apples of Gloucestershire' and the 'Bulmers Pomona'. Two works of #pomology that I've been planning to acquire for quite a while π

A few more additions to the #pomolibrary. Particularly pleased with the report on the 1934 RHS apple and pear conference, which I know has some interesting details about the origins of the "modified Lorette" system of pruning. Plus a list of exhibited varieties ππ

Ooh, hello. Coming in 2023 from @prospectbooks, a new one on cooking everyone's favourite weird-arse fruit, medlars:

That's gone straight on the #pomolibrary wishlist!

Latest #pomolibrary / historical cookery book acquisition, from Dalemain House up in the Lakes.
Marmalades of orange, quince, apricot, cherry, gooseberry, all sorts of fruity goodness.

Another great #pomolibrary addition: 'Science and Fruit' (1953). A potted history of the Long Ashton Research Station, articles on #cider making, fruit culture, tree nutrition, plant pathology & more, with b&w photos throughout.
#orchard #history

Another new addition to my #pomolibrary, this time via a recommendation from @adapples: 'The Orchard, a Memoir' by Adele Crockett Robertson. This copy has come all the way from Manchester, Massachusetts to Manchester, England via who knows where. Looking forward to reading it.

Just received the latest addition to my #pomolibrary. A battered, jacket-less copy of H. V. Taylor's 'The Apples of England' (usually Β£80ish, I paid Β£12). Variety descriptions, lovely colour plates and, tucked inside, a post-WW2 #cider- & #orchard-related historical document π

@nottscider @clonmelapplefe1 @TreesforDorset @TransitionDorch @ProjectOrchard @whingingpomme_ @homeofcider @CiderTemple @DorsetFoodDrink I'm still missing that one from my #pomolibrary. Although I do have their book of Apple Games and Customs π
