In addition to validators and stakers, there is another type of network participant in Aleo called provers. Provers engage with the Aleo blockchain primarily to earn coinbase rewards, which are distinct from the rewards for maintaining the network. The coinbase reward serves two primary purposes:

2. To Stochastically Distribute Aleo Tokens: The method for earning coinbase rewards is akin to Proof of Work (PoW), facilitating a broader distribution of Aleo tokens within the ecosystem.
The coinbase reward distribution is achieved via the proof of succinct work mechanism (PoSW), which is the improved version of PoW. Below is simplified pseudocode illustrating the PoSW process:
At each block height, a randomly-sampled Aleo program is selected. Provers try to construct a proof that attests to the program's correctness, which includes a nonce as an additional input alongside the program itself. Each prover searches for a nonce that results in a proof meeting the condition that the hash of the proof is less than a predefined difficulty level. This proof is considered a solution. The difficulty adjusts at each height based on the speed at which provers find solutions, akin to the difficulty adjustment in Bitcoin's PoW. This mechanism incentivizes provers to accelerate zkSNARK construction, encouraging the development of tools that benefit both the Aleo ecosystem and the zkSNARK research development field.
