Since approximately 2010 there’s been an active effort in Ukraine to recover and publicize national contributions to technology and culture. Tymchenko features strongly in that work (local museums, newspaper features, even a street named after him). That’s why I suspect you’ll see more mentions of him now than in older #anglophone literature. That revival is important, but historians still treat rediscovery claims cautiously until primary sources are published and examined. Nonetheless Ukrainian and regional historiography present him as an #embryonic #founderofcinema. The global history of #cinema doesn’t change on plausible claims alone. I have learned that many times in thirty-five years. Without surviving artifacts or clear contemporaneous documentation that can be examined physically, the claim stays plausible but unproven — important regionally, not yet dispositive internationally.
