Powell County elections are cutthroat. Before long, they become a family affair. Cousins stop speaking, aunties start fact-checking, and suddenly everybody with a Facebook account becomes a legal scholar, auditor, and political strategist overnight.
And the only thing hotter than the tempers are the social media lights shining down on the center ring.
Beware if you fail to run a tight ship. So grab your popcorn and keep your hands inside the ride at all times. Because election season in Powell County isn’t just mere politics. Welcome to the conservative carnival.

ICYMI: Powell County paramedics' case dismissed after venomous snake bite controversy
30th District Senator Brandon Smith called the situation unfortunate and said it may lead to adjusting rules and regulations for similar situations.
"It is sad that it made national news for all the wrong reasons, and just a little bit overzealous there to threaten and want to take these men's medical license for the type of paramedic work they do, which was very devastating," Smith said.
Smith emphasized the importance of not discouraging heroic actions.
"We don't want to set up a situation that would prevent someone from being the next hero," Smith said.

These new benches represent a TEAM effort in our community. New owners of Rogers Hardware, Nick and Christy Rose, generously donated the materials, we handled the construction at the PCDC, and the incredibly talented Ashley DelRosario took care of the paint and design work.
Budgets are tight everywhere, from local governments to school boards and definitely our kitchen tables, which makes this project all the more special to all of us. It’s a great example of what Powell County stands for, and what we can do when we work together. Now get out there boys and make omelettes out of the Comets. #GoPirates

When tested, #PowellCounty Detention Center proved itself and accountability ruled the day.
A bittersweet moment. Nonetheless, well done to Commonwealth Attorney Miranda King ,Frank Doyle Clark County Jailer, all staff at PCDC, and Powell County Jailer Teddy Lacy.
“The trust our community places in the staff here at the detention center is a bond I take very seriously,” Teddy Lacy, Powell County Jailer, told the @heraldleader. “So in the rare instance when that trust has been broken, it’s important to be transparent and take measures for our accountability.
“We want to ensure that the public knows we won’t let impropriety stand with serving the community.”
