Psychiatric drug withdrawal is the most traumatic thing I’ve ever experienced.
My mom deteriorated and died of cancer in 2021, and my dad died by suicide in 2025, but nothing compares to the trauma of the iatrogenic injury caused by psychiatric medication.

I had ZERO psychiatric history before 2012.
Then I got pumped full of fluoroquinolones for 5 mo for a misdiagnosis and hit with general anesthesia. I woke up in pure, 24/7 chemical terror.
Did they admit it was neurotoxicity? No. They labeled it a "GAD" and threw psych pills at me. I went through cold-turkey hell, but I fought my way out. I got 100% off meds and got my life back after 6 years. I proved them wrong.
But in 2021, a setback placed me back to square one.
Here’s how they ruin you:
You have an adverse physical reaction to their drugs -> they say your "anxiety is worsening."
They add a second pill to mask the side effects of the first. You react paradoxically. They add a third. They abruptly yank you off the second. Over 30 medication changes.
Now my CNS is completely shattered. I’m trapped on a toxic cocktail, bedridden, burning alive with severe #akathisia. And the exact same arrogant doctors who broke my brain just shrug their shoulders and write "treatment resistant" / " major recurrent depression" / " anxiety disorder" / "affective disorder" on my monthly chart and prescriptions.
You didn't fail to treat a disease. You literally manufactured one.

Back in 2020, on Stephen’s anniversary, I started #PrescribedHarm Awareness Day partly as a way to distract myself from the pain of that day and losing him but also to try and turn that pain into something meaningful by raising awareness of prescribed harm.
Every year, I would book time off work and throw myself into driving the campaign across social media….sharing Stephen’s story and the many others who contacted me through Stephen’s Voice……raising awareness, starting conversations and trying to prevent another death like his. It became my way of getting through the day whilst also fighting for something bigger than my own grief.
Stephen’s death impacted me in ways I don’t think people will ever fully understand. Losing him ripped my heart out. At times, the grief felt physical. But even through that pain, I kept pushing the campaign forward because if it helped even one person or one family, then it mattered.
Seeing Prescribed Harm Awareness Day now observed globally every year means more to me than I can properly put into words. And something as simple as seeing it now recognised locally by Mid Ulster District Council, has made me feel really emotional today 🙏🏻
Something that started from heartbreak has grown far beyond me now…..with the help of many other #prescribedharm advocates along those 6 years….the campaign can now stand on its own two feet. And that means that from here on in, on 29th July, I can just sit with Stephen 💜

🧵 As Lauren Friedman (@lololizzle) so powerfully describes here in her recent testimony, psychiatric drugs can strip away “the most central, intoxicating, worthwhile, and fulfilling parts of the human experience.”
She was speaking at the May 4 MAHA summit about her experience of Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD)—a condition that can emerge or persist after stopping psychiatric drugs, particularly those that act on serotonin such as SSRIs and SNRIs.
For those affected, this involves not only the loss of sexual function, but a profound emotional numbness. For Lauren, it means a loss of feeling love for her own mother, a loss of connection with friends and loss of pleasure in music and songwriting.
We know many of you have had similar experiences even while still taking antidepressants—and these adverse effects are among the most frequently cited reasons people choose to stop these drugs (source below).

@jill_d35 It is hardly surprising Annie Hickox joins in. She had the same attitude when I first encountered her in 2018. It would be no safer to seek help in 2026 than it was in 1975 when I first presented with #prescribedharm because very little changes in that field
@jill_d35 Desperation to deflect from #prescribedharm which has been one of the major causes of unnecessary patient harm for decades. I am just so pleased I am free from it all, the gaslighting in particular. It is one of the horrible aspects that I can live freely without
Despite textbook symptoms of iatrogenic injury, NO doctor validated my suffering. They called it a "relapse," dismissed the severe adverse drug reactions, and abandoned me. I was left completely alone to manage paradoxical toxicity.
