I will be urging Transport Committee on Thursday not to demolish the bridge, but to retain it through a combination of infilling & refurbishment.

#pridebridge isn't yet safe but Edinburgh council is now officially reconsidering. It is likely now cheaper to restore the bridge than tear it down. Success came from hard work, by giving the community something to rally around, from turning dull city logistics into a passion.
The bridge was painted rainbow. π It looks great. It transformed the area for the better and became a beacon for the LBGTQI+ community in the area. #pridebridge was born. A petition to save it was started. Press covered the story.
Edinburgh's #pridebridge is a fantastic example of community marketing. The council wanted to knock down a bridge and locals, led by the pub on the corner objected.

Thanks to the support of our members, we funded the paint for the fab #PrideBridge outside the @DreadnoughtPub in Leith. Seeing RΓ³isΓnβs vision turn into a reality with the incredible support of the community was one of our 2021 highlights. Itβs Scotlandβs newest LGBTQ+ landmark!
