For the first time in Rwanda, a new crop called Turmeric has emerged that is expected to boost yields and increase market supply.@BoscoManirabona
This is in @KayonzaDistrict, in #Ndego sector, where the company called #PRODEV decided to investe in Floriculture on area of 350 hectares which is used for flower farming, while another 350 hectares allocated to the livestock farming.
In Rwanda, floriculture is a growing sector due to the country’s favorable climate, fertile soils, and supportive government policies that encourage agricultural investment. Flower farms, especially those growing roses and ornamental plants, are increasingly contributing to export earnings and improving the livelihoods of local communities.
In many countries, floriculture has become an important economic activity because flowers have a high market value and strong demand, especially in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Commonly grown flowers include roses, carnations, lilies, orchids, and other ornamental plants.
Floriculture plays a significant role in economic development by generating foreign exchange through exports, creating employment opportunities and promoting modern agricultural technologies.
