I love that @bricewigginsMS has long admitted that facts I reported in @JxnFreePress was key to his gang law repeatedly failing at #msleg. Now he’s trying to say that is why Jackson violence increased, which is most facile retort possible. Meantime, ignores #projecteject timing.

@DonnerKay And look that! Your outlet combined with the same forces to defeat the gang bill in the House..... and now crime is worse than it was then. Way to keep the status quo in place and arguably make it worse.
Hint: Ask tough-in-crime politicians to cite evidence.
And note that the rapid rise in Jackson violence coincided exactly with #ProjectEject and its not-evidence-based disruptions and truly dumb PR interventions.
@jallen1985 Read my interview with David Kennedy, who laughed at notion that Hurst was copying his anti-violence strategy, in this piece to help understand why #ProjectEject was a very, very dangerous idea:

@jallen1985 It absolutely did, with violence spikes coinciding almost exactly with #ProjectEject announcements. Designer of plan Hurst was supposedly using had warned us that his approach could *increase* violence. All the background:

P.S. Then-US Attorney promised to rid Jackson of crime with the swelled-up #ProjectEject. Guess what? The start of our recent-years crime-violence increase coincided almost exactly with his presser with JXN police chief, FBI etc with him.
@ritaresarian First, Mississippi media need to talk to criminologists, period. Few ever do. US Attorney Mike Hurst actually bragged to me that #ProjectEject based on David Kennedy’s anti-violence model. Next week in his NYC office, Kennedy laughed, slammed Eject to me as racist.
It would be helpful to bear in mind that the last similar announcement like this about beefing up policing sweeps and such in Jackson was #ProjectEject by then-US Attorney Mike Hurst. That coincided pretty much exactly with violence spikes in Jackson.
WHISPERS AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS: Jackson's violence/homicide spike started same time U.S. attorney Mike Hurst started the anti-science #ProjectEject. If y'all think this can't be causal, I have a big statue of Andrew Jackson's head to sell you. Or, a decommissioned Thompson tank.
Not endorsement, but this is important, including to understand problems with #ProjectEject and failed #MSganglaw expansion in Mississippi (https://t.co/2LK95XhljS). I’ve also spent time with Taylon Murphy Sr.

JUST IN: Mike Hurst is resigning as U.S. attorney just in time for Biden's inauguration. With any luck, this will mean the end of #ProjectEject and other non-evidence-based "crimefighting" approaches in Mississippi. Remember, Jackson's violence spikes coincided exactly with Eject

Careful. Targeting gang leaders can leave power voids that are often filled with more violence. Pretty sure that happened in jxn in last two years with the PR stunt that is #ProjectEject.
The NYPD recorded 1,412 shooting incidents in the first 11 months of 2020, a nearly 96% rise from 721 in the same period last year.
The number of shooting victims was 1,730, more than double the same year-ago period.

I’ll say it again. This spike coincided with Mike Hurst introducing #projecteject to Jackson: Project Safe Neighborhoods is anything but. It disrupts streets: injects bad policing. Read: https://t.co/MHtCOoiZIv
“Jxn is currently experiencing an historic epidemic of violence, w/ 106 murders in just the first 9.5 months of 2020.... Under Project EJECT, we’ve been working closely w/ JPD & other law enforcement over the past 3 years to combat violent crime in Jxn.”
Ummm, shit ain’t workin.
Fighting and reducing violent crime all begins with leadership

At this rate, he claims, Jackson could see a murder rate almost three times higher than Chicago. https://t.co/5lCSAPzkSS
.@CityofJacksonMS >100 murders
On pace to have 128 murders by end of 2020 (MOST EVER!)
@JacksonMSPolice need more:
1. Officers

@SDMSNews will continue to fight violent crime. We need local leadership to do their part

In case anyone is wondering, it is not journalism to only quote law enforcement and prosecutors about their policing strategies and "success" of them. (Apel strike out again) In Jackson, violence spikes coincided with #ProjectEject: no evidence "success." https://t.co/zAOhCtbfHd
This violent thug held a store cashier at gunpoint!
I'm proud of the work of @HattiesburgPD, @ATFHQ @ATFNewOrleans & our own #AUSA Drew Eichner in getting this violent criminal off our streets & out of our neighborhoods!
