At #PromCon EU 2025, our engineer Ruihang Xia (@wayne17229928) shared a different path: bringing Prometheus into Rust.
The insight: Prometheus is a standard (OpenMetrics, PromQL, Remote Write)—not bound to Go.
"If it sounds like Prometheus, looks like Prometheus, and acts like Prometheus—it is Prometheus."
We took two approaches:
1. promql-parser — pure Rust parser reusing Prometheus's YACC grammar. 300K+ downloads, Python & Lua bindings available.
2. PromQL query engine — complete reconstruction. Mapped PromQL to SQL semantics, built on Apache DataFusion. Now supports SQL + PromQL hybrid queries.
Result: highest PromQL compliance score outside Prometheus itself. From 13% → nearly 100% over two years.

The sound of the @PrometheusIO #PromCon Munich live stream is interesting, however the audio quality SLI is low: the sound is quiet, with echo, and like if you were listening to someone from the next room. 🥲
