Seven (7) suspects aged between 23 and 50 were arrested for tampering with, damaging, or destroying #EssentialInfrastructure in Mangaung Metro. A search was conducted, and a digital sale receipt that was printed at NFS Scrap Metal Traders (PTY) Ltd and R10 400 were found in the White Mitsubishi. The team conducted further investigation and visited the scrapyard dealership. Copper cables sold by the seven suspects were pointed out. The manager of the dealership was issued a fine for failure to comply, and a case of Tampering, damaging and destroying essential infrastructure and Possession of suspected stolen copper cables was opened and the recovered copper cables were booked in the Evidence Management System at Heidedal Police Station.
A crime intelligence-driven sweep operation was also conducted by Public Order Police Unit Bloemfontein operators at identified drug posts; a 27-year-old female was arrested in possession of 16 small zip-lock plastic bags containing suspected Chrystal Meth, 5 halves -, and 6 quarters of Mandrax tablets in Chris Hani. Another suspect was found in possession of 14 small zip-lock containers with Chrystal Meth, one half -, and 11 full Mandrax tablets.

The members searched the premises and found a .38 Special revolver belonging to the owner who failed to renew his firearm license. He faces charges in terms of the Firearm Control Act.
He will appear in the Vredenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
On Friday, 18 September 2026, an integrated #CrimePrevention operation was conducted in Philippi East where foot patrols were conducted and search warrants executed. During the operation, an adult male was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm. A total of eight undocumented persons were arrested when they could not produce valid documentation to be in the country.
The suspects will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court once they have been charged.

Lusikisiki #PublicOrderPolice (POP) members showed that policing is also about caring for the communities they serve when they visited the AFM Goso Cluster Home Orphanage on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.
The visit formed part of a community outreach initiative aimed at providing support to the 30 children accommodated at the orphanage, while strengthening the relationship between the South African Police Service (#SAPS) and the community.
The members arrived with groceries, clothing, and shoes, which were donated to the children as a gesture of Ubuntu and compassion. The donations were sourced through voluntary contributions from members of Lusikisiki POP towards the initiative.
The visit was not simply about handing over much-needed items. Members also took the opportunity to spend time with the children, interacting, playing, singing, and dancing together. The joyful interaction created an opportunity for police members and the children to connect outside the usual policing environment.
The management of the orphanage warmly welcomed the members and expressed appreciation for the support. They also indicated that there remains an ongoing need for necessities to assist the children in their daily lives.
The initiative highlights the importance of community involvement in creating safer and stronger communities. While police officers have a responsibility to prevent and combat crime, meaningful engagement with communities also plays an important role in building trust and fostering positive relationships.
Through initiatives such as these, Lusikisiki POP members continue to demonstrate that Ubuntu is about extending a helping hand, caring for others, and working together to build a safer environment for all.

Lusikisiki #PublicOrderPolice (POP) members showed that policing is also about caring for the communities they serve when they visited the AFM Goso Cluster Home Orphanage on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.
The visit formed part of a community outreach initiative aimed at providing support to the 30 children accommodated at the orphanage, while strengthening the relationship between the South African Police Service (#SAPS) and the community.
The members arrived with groceries, clothing, and shoes, which were donated to the children as a gesture of Ubuntu and compassion. The donations were sourced through voluntary contributions from members of Lusikisiki POP towards the initiative.
The visit was not simply about handing over much-needed items. Members also took the opportunity to spend time with the children, interacting, playing, singing, and dancing together. The joyful interaction created an opportunity for police members and the children to connect outside the usual policing environment.
The management of the orphanage warmly welcomed the members and expressed appreciation for the support. They also indicated that there remains an ongoing need for necessities to assist the children in their daily lives.
The initiative highlights the importance of community involvement in creating safer and stronger communities. On Wednesday, 16 September 2026, police were summoned to the Bethlehem Industrial Area following information about a group of armed individuals who were allegedly digging trenches to access and steal electrical cables, thereby damaging essential infrastructure.
Upon arrival, police members were met with an exchange of gunfire from the suspects. Approximately 30 people were reportedly at the scene. During the operation, one suspect was arrested, while a second suspect was arrested later.
No injuries have been reported thus far.
A case of attempted murder and damage to #EssentialInfrastructure is being investigated. The two suspects are expected to appear before the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 18 September 2026, facing charges of attempted murder and damage to essential infrastructure.

On Wednesday, 16 September 2026 at approximately 21:00, police were summoned to a local filling station following information about two suspicious vehicles that had been parked at the premises for some time. The information raised concern as the area had previously experienced a series of business robberies at filling stations within Phuthaditjhaba.
Public Order Police members were activated, and upon noticing the police, one of the vehicles left the filling station. Police followed the vehicle and successfully stopped it. Four occupants were found inside.
The suspects and vehicle were thoroughly searched. Police discovered three 9mm pistols without serial numbers and 49 rounds of ammunition. All four suspects were immediately arrested and the vehicle was seized.
During further investigation, police were led to a property in Botshabela Village allegedly belonging to one of the suspects. A search was conducted, resulting in the discovery of additional R5 rifle ammunition and five rounds of pistol ammunition.
The four suspects, aged 32, 43, 44 and 45, have been charged with possession of illegal firearms and ammunition. They are expected to appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 18 September 2026.
The Free State Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thabang Lesia, welcomed the successful operation and commended the police members for their dedication in removing illegal firearms from the hands of criminals.
Lieutenant General Lesia urged community members to remain vigilant and report information about persons in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition to the police. Illegal firearms are frequently associated with serious and violent crimes and pose a significant threat to communities.
