TBT (long overdue post). I really enjoyed #QConSF this year, and it has now become one of my favorite conferences. Thanks to the organizers for putting together a program with so many deep, practical systems talks, and to everyone who stopped by to discuss reliability and database-backed execution models. We presented the architectural design and tradeoffs behind @DBOS_Inc: how we think about durable execution and why a database-centric library approach works well when the constraints are made explicit. Several hallway conversations turned into detailed design reviews, and someone told me they learned about SKIP LOCKED from my talk and plan to use it to reduce contention in their system. That's why I love QCon: the technical exchange, not product pitches. Plus, I got some super cute swag. I now have my second Postgres elephant plushie thanks to @Yugabyte! If you ever have doubts about whether Postgres can scale, check them out :)
