The problem with relying on stats selectively is that the unreliable methodology underpinning your lies eventually come back to bite you.
How does @alanwinde @Our_DA explain the nett loss of jobs in the first quarter of 2024 while other provinces had a nett gain?
#QLFS #Jobs

Two fundamentally important things emerge from these two charts from today's #QLFS @StatsSA :
- The number of people unemployed (in the broad definition) has risen to 12.1 million people. Crisis levels
- The number of people who have either given up looking for work (discouraged workseekers), or are defined as long-term unemployed, is 3 million plus 6.2 million. A total of 9.2 million effectively outside the active labour market.
Jobs *aren't available* in the short term, so other immediate, high-impact interventions, including the introduction of basic income, are critical if we are to address the extreme poverty and hunger arising from this reality.
The idea of job-seeking conditionalities attached to qualifying for government programmes, including social grants, as proposed by some political parties, is clearly irrational and counterproductive.
The solution: urgent introduction of basic income and more appropriate macroeconomic policies which will promote jobs rich and inclusive growth.
