After 4 months of using #QWQ (#LocalLLM experimental model by @Alibaba_Qwen team), here is my long-term review.
At first, it blew me away.
Instead of giving me crutches, as #ChatGPT & Co. does, QWQ was helping me run faster.
The output did not immediately spill out the solution. We needed to discuss how to improve my work.
It might look normal to you now, but it was unusual back then.
Expose your project, and QWQ will help you perform better. Don't expect it to output a quick fix.
Then I got frustrated.
I kept reminding myself that it was an experimental model.
Even though it's clearly stated that QWQ is experimental, it sucks when things don't go as smoothly as expected.
AI feels very dumb when it fails.
Being unable to get a decent output every time is disappointing.
Then #DeepSeek came out.
ChatGPT reasoning models are also solid.
I didn't give up on QWQ.
Finally, I can get incredible results consistently.
There is something very special about this model.
The key is to provide it with a lot of context, way more than I'm used to.
I don't use mega prompts.
A series of short prompts is my way of interacting with AI.
It can get exhausting fast.
Prompting x3 with QWQ is the price to achieve a solid output that will confirm you are a human augmented by AI.
Is it worth it?
Although QWQ is not my first choice for every task, it's a terrific assistant that has dramatically improved my performance.
It's my favorite model to evaluate the best outcome possible.
