Of course we discussed many of the classic questions Lao still face in the US at #RACSummit even after 45 years in the US. But still, many of us ARE rebuilding in rural america, and with it come questions of tremendous opportunity, strengthened by the arts.
At #RACSUMMIT we covered many different topics on why the diverse journeys of refugees such as the Lao matters: How we can't take it for granted that our stories will be told, heard, or shared even after decades. Often we must persist even when it seems there's no initial support
Wrapped up the Rural Arts and Culture Summit in Grand Rapids, MN today and I’m so happy and excited and hopeful to realize I’m not the only one who is ridiculously passionate about art in rural places. My energy is dwarfed by theirs. #RACsummit
#Racsummit will be remembered as a pivotal exchange for the #Laomagination project. Thank you all who attended our session and to those who shared their talents and insights throughout the whole weekend. Recommended experience.
Second, it's wild to see this #RACSummit logo I refreshed in print on so many things. When you're a person who does a lot of little things in service of bigger things, you sometimes forget about a thing you did a long time ago, so seeing it on a lawn sign is pretty amazing.
I'm also grateful for all the grace of other attendees and session presenters as I tried to balance #RACSummit tasks with walking in circles, holding my little one's hand. Parenting is a meditating practice, you do the same thing over and over, including 11,660 steps yesterday.
Two personal things from the past few days of #RACsummit. One, I'm incredibly grateful there was a Kid's Track here, there were so many kids around. This is work done in and through our lives, and our kids are a part of that.
