From 8am Friday to 8am Saturday, Erin went from a Tropical Storm to a Category 4 Hurricane! (A 75 mph wind increase)
As discussed on Thursday, the slow intensification period for #Erin was concluding. Still, 60 mph of intensification between 8 pm last night and 8 am today was more aggressive than any guidance. #HurricaneErin is now a #cat4 145 mph #hurricane. #rapidintensification
What do we know about #TropicalStormErin?
1) #Erin has intensified slowly over the last 36 hours. That is about to change. Rapid intensification (more than one period possible) is likely between early Friday and Sunday

Unlike last year, 2024 was a big year for #rapidintensification of #hurricanes in the North Atlantic. Some notable stats:
1) The fastest 24 hour intensification period before July- Beryl: 65 mph
2) Tied for the fastest 36 hour intensification period ever- Milton: 120 mph

A pinhole #eye is trying to poke out of hurricane #Rafael this morning. #RapidIntensification occurred overnight.
As of the latest 8am #advisory, the system is moving NW @ 14mph w/ sustained winds of 100mph, making the system a CAT 2 hurricane. A major shift in the cone has occurred within the last 24 hours, keeping the worst of the system off the US coastline for now. We are still watching for changes as our pattern is extremely #volatile.
I believe any impacts felt from Rafael will be when it becomes #frontal, and the vorticity is stretched due to the shear. I hope the steering remains in this general direction.

Tropical Strom #Rafael has certainly improved its structure over the last 12 hours. #Dry air has retreated, shear has decreased, and the system is beginning to stack as the sun goes down this #Monday evening.
#RapidIntensification will likely occur throughout the day tomorrow before reaching Cuba on Wednesday. The current #NHC forecast has increased its forecasted max winds to 85kts/100mph before making #landfall along the southwestern coast of the island. Could very easily reach CAT 3 #MAJOR before Cuba. A lot of that will be determined based on how quickly the #structure continues to improve overnight.

#Sun is now rising on tropical storm #Milton. The system is likely about to take full advantage of the #DMAX period, which will likely aid to quicker lowering #pressures and #RapidIntensification. Its movement eastward (jogs north or south) over the next two days will likely have implications on how far north into the west coast of #Florida this makes landfall at.
If you are within the cone of uncertainty, you need to be preparing for impacts regardless. A major hurricane is #forecasted to make landfall. If last-minute shifts put you in the #bullseye, you do not want to get caught unprepared, trust me.
