Does It Appeal? Time Versus Money You spend months pecking away at a manuscript. Then one day you finally write those two words: “The End.” Five minutes later the realization hits—that was the easy part. You need a cover, some degree of editing, and, worst of all, a way to make your book visible among the other 11,000 books finished the same day as yours. So what do you do? You can take it all on yourself and try to save some coin, but you’re going to pay in time. You need a cover regardless; your formatting has to meet industry standards; your narrative can’t be full of mistakes; and you’d better do some research on marketing while you manage multiple social-media accounts in the hope of finding readers. All these things take time, and every minute you spend on them is a minute you’re not doing something else—especially writing another book. But what if there was a place where all these ancillary services were available under a single roof, and you could choose à la carte what to delegate to professionals and what to handle yourself? This question, my friends, is not only for you. It’s an ongoing discussion between myself and Justine as we consider creating a one-stop service site for authors. So yeah, I guess I’m canvassing you all. I want to know what you think—what would make this concept attractive and what would not. More importantly, I want to know if you think it would work. #WritingCommunity
