Nevada's $9 million investment in a pathway program for paraprofessionals to be trained to become teachers is worth noting for D.C. This initiative adds 425 pre-service educators to their local teaching workforce. I appreciate the intention and creativity in planning.

$197B for Grow Your Own Educator programs! Because of our work to pass the #REPPDC program last year- DC will be well positioned to take advantage of this federal $ and make great strides towards recruiting and retaining a diverse educator workforce! @DCSuptGrant @ChmnMendelson
The K-12 education provisions were preserved:
—$82B for K-12 infrastructure
—$450B for childcare/universal pre-K
—$35B for school nutrition
—$198M for teacher residencies
—$198M for principals
—$197 for Grow Your Own programs
It’s a done deal! Our #REPPDC proposal to create city wide “grow your own” investments for DC HS students and paraprofessionals to become DC educators is now law! Huge step forward for #TeacherDiversity! We can’t wait to work with partners to bring this program to life.
🚨 🎯 We are very excited that @ChmnMendelson & @councilofdc budget fully funds #REPPDC teacher pipelines with a strong investment that will truly build a more diverse teacher workforce! We urge council to approve this funding and strengthen teacher recruitment and retention!

I sit on the Labor and Workforce Committee chaired by @tweetelissa and I'm excited about new investments our Committee proposes, including:
✅ Expanding paid medical leave for DC workers to 6 weeks (from 2 weeks)
✅ $20 million for #ExcludedWorkers locked out of social safety net

Teachers know that educators of color make a tremendous impact on the lives of our students. Especially in a time where students need even more social emotional support, having positive adult mentors is so critical. We must fund #REPPDC & improve teacher diversity @ChmnMendelson!
