Top Tweets for #RIPPLED
A little over a year ago (1/18/25) I started running an XRPL validator not really knowing where the journey would lead.
Tonight the Sugar Validator upgraded to #rippled 3.1.3 and is back online healthy:
🍬 Validating = true
🍬 Consensus healthy
🍬 Ledger age = 1s
🍬 Upgrade successful
There have been hardware debates, tuning, monitoring scripts, upgrades, GPG key rotations, and a lot of learning along the way.
Still here. Still validating. ⚡

Finally updated the BIOS on my server so I could install my upgraded CPU.
Updated to #rippled 3.1 and currently proposing.
Planned downtime:
- relocating server to a different spot
- adding a UPS to my network cabinet

This one clip made me laugh but was kinda cool too - $BtcSwag Nation #Rippled, soon the #nfts will drop on #XRP, im working on several series to become possibly the first we get real traction with!
Verified on @rarible as artists, I posted some #Nfts there but may need to re-post some sales!

🚀 Validator Update: Sugar on rippled v2.6.0
Still proposing & validating —
Peers: 31 | Quorum: 29 | Converge: ~3.0s ✅
And yes… diversity of infra strengthens the XRPL.
Hate it or not, Sugar validator isn’t going anywhere. 🟢

“Fighting with My Local Setup”

Recently, I tried running rippled in standalone mode, and I also followed the Python-based setup instructions described in @Handy_4ndy’s repository:

The Docker image is simply for running it locally, so it might not be ideal if your goal is to work directly with the rippled source code. That said, this could just be due to my lack of understanding. 😆

In my case, the conan install didn’t work properly as-is, but after some trial and error, I managed to get it working.
Now that I’ve understood the environment setup and how to launch a local server, I’m planning to just dive in and start working.
Actually, there’s already something I’d like to fix, so I’m going to give it a try.
I don’t have much experience with C++, but strangely, I feel like I can do it—maybe because I’ve read so much about it. 🔥

My #rippled Journey 05🚶🏻

In my previous post, I discovered a file called TimeKeeper.h, which manages network time, and located where the Ripple Epoch is defined.
I then looked into xrpl/basics/chrono.h, which is included by TimeKeeper.h. It seems to play a critical role in measuring network time. In this file, an epoch_offset is computed, and if it doesn't match exactly 946684800 seconds, the build fails. This effectively enforces the consistency of the Ripple network time. It turns out this might be the real TimeKeeper.

I also found the NetClock class to be quite significant.

One detail that caught my attention was the use of uint32_t. It makes sense for now, as the system only needs to handle integer values. However, the maximum value for a uint32_t is 4294967295 seconds—roughly 136 years. This means that by around the year 2100, someone will likely need to propose an amendment to address this limit. I’ve come to understand uint32_t a bit better through this.
I imagine Arthur Britto and David Schwartz might have adopted the Ripple Epoch partly due to Y2K concerns, or perhaps they simply wanted to avoid wasting the first 30 years’ worth of seconds. (The difference—946,684,800 seconds—is approximately 30 years.)
A comment from @msvadari also helped me understand another angle: the importance of this setup for testing purposes. I found a few lines that appear to support this, and I plan to dig into them further next time.

I also came across an interesting repository that I’d like to share.
It belongs to @Handy_4ndy, one of the talented developers in the community.

This repository contains material from the Core Developer Bootcamp hosted by @xrpl_commons, which he is currently taking part in. (He confirmed with me that it's okay to share this.)
For someone like me who’s been wandering through the world of rippled, this feels like a highway.
One more thing to look forward to this month.
