Has anyone noticed any hazelnuts yet this year? Some of the best fruiting hazel trees are those that have been part of coppiced work in the past, where the trees are good and healthy. This style of management has been happening in the AONB for centuries.

What else does a Ranger do?
We spend much of the summer months maintaining the park furniture. This might be installing, repairing & repainting new benches & picnic tables.
Much of the practical work is undertaken by volunteers at both parks!

We spent a great day with a small group of #volunteers this week removing cotoneaster and buddleia from #EavesWood. They’re lovely in your gardens but can be really invasive in a SSSi where there’s a delicate balance of rare plants.

This unusual object is an amphibian ladder. At this time of year when the #natterjacktoads are busy on site they often find themselves stuck down grids and places where they shouldn't be so we put these ladders down to help them crawl back out.
