A good day for Kenya 🇰🇪 and a good day for cancer care in Africa.
Today in Mombasa, together with @HonAdenDuale and Governor Abdullswamad Sharrif Nassir, proud to inaugurate a new linac machine at @CoastReferral under @IAEAorg’s #RaysOfHope initiative, with financial support from the USA. And another linac is also being launched today in Nakuru.
For too long, many cancer patients had to travel abroad for treatment. Now, more people will be able to receive lifesaving care closer to home. Kenya is showing what can be achieved through commitment, partnership and solidarity.
This is what #RaysOfHope is about: changing lives for better and bringing care where it is needed most.

The @IAEAorg continues to deepen cooperation with Iraq, from expanding cancer care through #RaysOfHope to supporting 🇮🇶’s interest in a peaceful nuclear programme, including exploring SMRs.
Good to welcome Ambassador @ha_alalawi to the Agency this morning and exchange on these topics as he presented his credentials.

For more than half of all cancer patients, radiotherapy treatment is essential, — yet in many countries, access remains limited.
Through its #RaysOfHope initiative, the IAEA has delivered essential equipment to support the restoration of radiotherapy services at the National Cancer Institute in Wad Madani Sudan.
Once operational, the facility is expected to treat up to 10,000 patients per year, expanding access to life-saving cancer care.
