Top Tweets for #RemoteOption
Everyone always forgets that many parents of students with #disabilities work for the school system, and face a double whammy when #TransitEquity is not achieved. #RemoteOption has a place in this.
This number doesn’t account for 60K students who just went missing and/or are no longer in the system because @NYCSchools forced some parents to withdraw their students from school rather than fully support #RemoteOption. Can’t forget that part… https://t.co/gErmGVV5lG
@AfrocenCHICK @NYCSchools It's still happening. Parents, teachers and students still fight for a #remoteoption with no help or understanding. And all our families are getting sick yet the attendance office keeps calling like they don't know about Covid-19 smh
I voted for @Fernandez4NY for State Senate because as an Assemblymember, when parents came to her about #RemoteOption @NYCSchools, without hesitation she sponsored @LiuNewYork’s Remote Option Bill in the Assembly to protect students, families, & communities. 🧵 /6

@AGZimmerman @DumiLM “Families were scared so they didn’t send their kids every day. In some instances, a parent was sick & just wanted to keep everyone close by & wanted to keep everyone out.” - Matt Brownstein, Assistant Principal, P.S. 330.
A #RemoteOption should have been available then & NOW!🧑💻
Not everyone can get that booster. Not everyone who gets it will have the same degree of protection. We still need #VaxPlus with masks, ventilation, and #RemoteOption. #CovidIsNotOver
@BrianKiely2 @keetmuise This🧵mentions the many things that could have been done, including embracing new alternative educational models & increasing access for many students & teachers/faculty. It’s an one mitigation that helps those avoiding infection, isolating & living w/ #LongCovid 🤦♀️#RemoteOption
Investing in self-paced, alternative educational models—among multiple available options—would have made school vastly more accessible to a wider range of students, who don't all benefit from the same in-person approaches. 2/10
If anyone needs to know why @Fernandez4NY would make a great NYS Senator, ask the parents she supported by sponsoring a #RemoteOption bill in the Assembly for @NYCSchools when COVID was tearing through our Bronx community and voting to FULLY fund our schools!You have my vote!

@lauratgonzalez Downright offensive to #disability community in particular; many of us utilize online spaces as our primary space of social connection and community organizing given our #Accessibility needs. But also for many others who for financial or logistical reasons depend on #RemoteOption
@luckytran This is absolutely correct. And meanwhile, it is becoming harder and harder to get the accommodation of #RemoteOption for learning, work, and medical care. There's no commitment to making spaces safe for vulnerable, yet we're forced to be there. It's criminal.
They are trying to leave kids back who didn't go to school this school year because of the pandemic. This is the direct result of not offering a #remoteoption to families. This is on @NYCSchools and their incompetent ways but our students will pay the price. 💔
If students are home due to one of these reasons:
a) AVOIDING Covid-19
b) RECOVERING from Covid-19
c) STRUGGLING w/#LongCovid
Why aren’t ALL school districts supporting their long-term health & education by providing #RemoteOption ? 🤦♀️
@SecCardona @NYCMayor @DOEChancellor
@JANEMCARTHUR11 Sounds like you just described my life exactly. Except my teen is now home from school because of long Covid…caught at school in an N95 one week after mask mandates ended. Now struggling to graduate. Yet everyone keeps screaming “it’s over” when for us it isn’t.
And when it ignored the pleas from communities that begged for #RemoteOption during surges, did nothing while 228,755 people @NYCSchools got sick this school year, unleashed @ACSNYC on parents afraid to send their kids to school, & cut funding when schools need additional support
@GovKathyHochul I wish you a smooth recovery. You’ve now joined over 199K stdnts & staff in @NYCSchools who’ve tested + this school yr, not to mention all the fams whose lives were impacted too. Please help STOP infections by preventing transmission. Clean air, Vax, Mask, & #RemoteOption.
@McDPS08 @NYCSchools @nypost @nytimes @NY1 @NYCMayor There were over 30 cases in our school this week. Since 9/13 over 199,000 students & staff have tested COVID+ in @NYCSchools. The inaction to protect NYC’s youngest & their fams from #LongCOVID, 🚑, &⚰️ is 🤯! https://t.co/icgQhecxIN

🎯 I’d add to this a #RemoteOption for any student, staff or family who needs it due to being high-risk (which many more will be), for quarantine, isolation, any illness or out of concern! We need safer schools & flexibility to choose safest enviro for our families!
@DJBecka @MandateMasksNY Another 1,399 students & staff tested positive in @NYCSchools today & we just crossed 197K for the year! 😳 How is this OK? Why isn’t @NYCMayor protecting students, staff & families from #LongCOVID, 🏥, & ⚰️ or giving a #RemoteOption ? We still have another month + to go! 🤦♀️

@julredman @EricTopol @latimes @AshishKJha46 @WHCOVIDResponse Can @CDCgov @SecCardona @OSHA_DOL also respond publicly on how this could impact millions of students, staff & families in public schools who should not be forced to gamble daily w/ their health to learn/teach. Until new safety standards are set & met, support a #RemoteOption.
Last week ⬆️ 4,000 stdnts & staff tested C19+ @NYCSchools. TODAY over 2,000.😳
Stdnts, staff & fams deserve safer learning & working conditions. No one should gamble w/ their health to learn/work in school. 🌬😷 🧠🫁🫀#OSHAhearing #RemoteOption until safety standards set & met!
NYC’s COVID risk rises, but mask mandates haven’t to returned to K-12 schools https://t.co/2Q6BBgehls

@lizkimtweets Over 3,000 stdts & 1,400 staff tested C19+ last week in @NYCSchools. Students, staff & families deserve safer learning & working conditions. No one should be gambling w/ their health to learn/work in school! #FreeSafePublicEducation #RemoteOption until safety standards set & met!
Sounds like a great question for the mayor! Over 3K students tested positive for C-19 last week.😳What will trigger the reinstating of specific protections in nyc schools? https://t.co/icgQhecxIN
