Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.), a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, ripped the Colorado GOP’s letter about treatment of Jan. 6 defendants. He debunked claims championed by some far-right House Republican members. He said, "The claim that anyone was jailed “pending charges is false. Claims that defendants were held without bond for misdemeanors are “pure fiction.” 85% of those held are charged with felony assault of law enforcement- not a misdemeanor. He further added “Your letter misleads the reader by portraying worse conditions at the jail for January 6 defendants than for other inmates. That is simply not true.” Pushing back on allegations of failure to provide due process, Buck wrote, “While many January 6 defendants have decried the process as unfair, it is the same process every federally indicted criminal defendant goes through.
