New Orleans and the metro cannot pump itself out of severe rain events. The answer, #RetentionPonds. They should be all over the metro area. We also need to be planting trees indefinitely. 30% of our tree canopy gone in last 20 years. Es loco

@NOLAnews Amazing. Not one mention of
#RetentionPonds
in the entire article.
Not one mention of 30% of our
#TreeCanopy
is gone in the last 20 years. Here in lies the problem.
The local paper’s Sunday article coupled with politicians, Clueless on the real prob
Wake up people!!!
The motto of New Orleans should be #WeBeDiggin’
24/7/365 all we do in New Orleans is dig holes.
Small ones for planting trees. Especially since 30% of our tree canopy has vanished in the last 20 years. 30%!!!
And big big holes for #RetentionPonds, for flood control. Overdue
Hey Now! Bobo talking off the cuff. Enjoying peace ☮️ & tranquility, at the many parks here in Central Florida. #Orlando #FloridaLakes #PeaceAndTranquility #RetentionPonds #X #BoboOffTheCuff #SternShow #Gators #FloridaWildLife #Positivity #BoboNotSoStupid #Motivation #BoboOut
@ThitherCrib6723 @SWBNewOrleans We could dig more drainage canals and have more pumping stations but I’m pretty sure some of our pumps are some of the largest and most powerful just about anywhere. The #WoodScrewPumps are enormous
More pumps.
More canals.
#RetentionPonds
@James_sherwood1 The Netherlands model. Lots of public places, playgrounds, sports fields, even town squares, designed to flood, to hold lots of water. #RetentionPonds
This is Bucktown people!!!
Hey New Orleans!
The only way out of this is #RetentionPonds!
#RetentionPonds!
#RetentionPonds!
We should have been digging them all over the city right after Katrina. What’s wrong with us?
Did I mention #RetentionPonds as the solution?!?
Are the citizens of New Orleans ever going to learn from their mistakes, relying on the @SWBNewOrleans, when we all know, even if the system were working efficiently and effectively, a deluge like today, can’t be handled by that system.
#RetentionPonds already. Everywhere!
@NOLAnews This is beyond unacceptable.
Even if @SWBNewOrleans had brand new equipment, it would still only drain 1” of rainfall the first hour and 1/2” every hour after that
We desperately need #RetentionPonds throughout NOLA. We get $141 million. And don’t have the ponds and jobs! Wtf?
@HipTang @Dlwatkin @Matthew67052126 @shadesofoffside @IndyMayorJoe @IndyCouncil It doesn’t get solved for 18 months, until the sub station opens. And then it’s not even solved.
We can bitch and complain about the @SWBNewOrleans all day and night long. Until we dig, #RetentionPonds, the city will continue to flood with a harsh rain event
Retention Ponds!!!
@NOLAPaulG That’s just silly. They’ll have the pumps and turbines working by the Super Bowl. They have the pumps and turbines working in the next few weeks.
Until New Orleans embraces #RetentionPonds, no matter how well the system is working, a large rain will cause flooding
@Matthew67052126 The fact that the city hasn’t been digging #RetentionPonds for decades is mind blowing.
All this city should be doing is digging retention ponds.
If you get the @SWBNewOrleans system working as best as possible, it’s still limited to 1” the first hour, 1/2” every hour after
@dcbigjohn @SWBNewOrleans @mayorcantrell Most folks overlook, and it’s not an opinion it’s a fact, if and when the @SWBNewOrleans has the system running as efficiently as possible, state of the art, brand new equipment, it will still flood in New Orleans with 4”+ rain in a quick time.
#RetentionPonds only answer!
About 15 in, a good 25 minutes with @SWBNewOrleans director #GhassanKorban discussing last Saturday’s rain and street flooding.
Even if system is working perfectly, 5” of rain will cause flooding. Only answer, #RetentionPonds
https://t.co/XMeUYuhukp
At 4:20 #GhassanKorban @SWBNewOrleans joins us “live”. What happened to the pumps the other day? And more. #RetentionPonds
Also at 5:10 @RTMannJr from @ManshipSchool @LSU to discuss #BrianKelly @LSUfootball comments about football and academics

More rain coming. How many more times do we have to flood, finally say enough is enough? It’s over 18 years now since Katrina and we’ve barely dug any #RetentionPonds. And none of the big ones that have been discussed. This solves, fucking solves, Nola’s flooding problem!!!
@NOLAbuff @jameskarst @WWLTV Build a bridge over the railroad tracks and keep the ditch underneath. It’s called a retention pond. Look how much water is naturally being held there. Why fight that?!? Work with it. #WorkWithWater #RetentionPonds. @SWBNewOrleans
Hey broken New Orleans, and that means you New Orleanians that don’t care, how about digging some retention ponds? #RetentionPonds. All
Over New Orleans. Plant trees and dig retention ponds 24/7/365!!!
“We be diggin” should be New Orleans motto.
#PlantTrees #RetentionPonds
Have you ever wondered how we #water the millions of plants we produce each year? Research Manager Katie Jent explains how Metrolina Greenhouses collects rainwater in our #retentionponds and takes you through our #watertreatment center to show how we carefully filter the water!
