I'm excited to be speaking to the Field Naturalist Club of Ballarat tomorrow about our @PRO_Vic funded Victorian FNC project. Thus far, we've uploaded 4771 pages from their back issues onto @biodivlibrary (1974-2023), defined 1925 articles & started DOI assignment. #RetroPIDs

I've just assigned DOIs to the articles in the Peninsula Field Naturalists Club Newsletter (now on @biodivlibrary thx to @bhl_au). The articles contain extensive local biodiversity knowledge that is now accessible, discoverable & easily citable. #RetroPIDs https://t.co/Imc40QQYUP

.@TDWG is in Australia this year! In Tassie! So, rather than ranting about #RetroPIDs & DOIs, I'll be celebrating BHL Australia (from 1 org to ~50). And Thylacines. Of course. https://t.co/P9DjXJG3be cc @bhl_au @BioDivLibrary @atlaslivingaust

Today we started working on the article data for Annales Musei botanici lugduno-batavi (1863-9), which contains beautifully illustrated plant descriptions. They'll soon be discoverable in @BioDivLibrary thx to Team #RetroPIDs, @rdmpage & @bhl_au volunteers https://t.co/xDUkGnz3H8

The articles in the "Journal and proceedings of the Royal Society of New South Wales" (and its earlier title variations) now have DOIs. 3363 of them! All the way back to the very first article published in 1862: https://t.co/3F2cCDBdoG. #RetroPIDs @BioDivLibrary @atlaslivingaust

To commemorate #InternationalDayforBiologicalDiversity, we delve into one of our most beloved treasures on @BioDivLibrary: Shaw's "The Naturalist's Miscellany" 1789-1813, which contains the 1st published scientific descriptions of the kangaroo, the echidna & the platypus.
1943: the "Decision [was made] to Establish the Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature". The 4200+ articles published between then & 2008 don't (yet) have DOIs. But they're coming! Thanks so @ZooNom @biodivlibrary #RetroPIDs. I just have to check 4200+ lines of article data. Sigh.

@nicholdav @Katja_Thieme @ctitusbrown @CrossrefOrg @nwchap @internetarchive @joewass Due to the absence of quotation marks, my tweet totally made it sound like I wrote the blog post. Apologies @joewass. If you want to know more about our #RetroPIDs work (retrospectively assigning DOIs), here's an old blog post I did write: https://t.co/YbT0XZIq2I
@nicholdav @Katja_Thieme @ctitusbrown @CrossrefOrg @nwchap @internetarchive Clarifying, it’s @joewass’s blog post - I was quoting Joe’s mention of his own blog post at a conference. You can/should assign DOIs to blog posts, both at the time of publication and retrospectively (same process). And, yes, @CrossrefOrg would be the way to go (IMO). #RetroPIDs
If you need a list of the variable stars advantageously situated for observation in New South Wales, we've got you covered: https://t.co/s59FxKUQxD via the Royal Society of New South Wales (1862) @biodivlibrary #Astronomy #RetroPIDs

This week I retrospectively assigned DOIs to Transactions of the Philosophical Society of New South Wales 1862-5. A great read: oology, vertebrated animals, snakebites, comets, n'gons, osmium & the prospects of the Civil Service. #RetroPIDs https://t.co/nxvwggTsAp @BioDivLibrary
