Grapevine this morning. I've heard it described as a road to California sanity. Guess it depends on which direction you're driving. It's definitely a California icon. https://t.co/MwbAiwig4Z
@pyrogeog @geotripper @googlemaps Similar thing happened to the #RidgeRoute between Castaic and Gorman on January 26, where google likely sent three big rigs over a narrow and twisty roadway when I-5 was closed. They damaged the road, got stuck, and 10 others were trapped. Road is closed at that. @googlemaps
Before I-5 was constructed at the #Grapevine, there was the Old Ridge Route, seen here in the 1920s. #TBT #ThrowbackThursday #historic #RidgeRoute #oldridgeroute @ridgeroute99 #Castaic #Lebec @CaltransDist6
@CAFireScanner All should note that, as per https://t.co/ABqf9LOaYG, Interstate 5 remains CLOSED in both directions, see screenshot below.
RP’s familiar with area state that the old #RidgeRoute to Highway 138 is also impassable/not an alternate option.
#TBT #ThrowbackThursday The old Ridge Route in northern Los Angeles County as seen in the 1920s. Replaced by Interstate 5. (Be Aware: old #RidgeRoute in @Angeles_NF is closed through Sept.17 for public safety.) #historicalphoto #oldridgeroute @ridgeroute99 #history #CA
We had a great time providing EMS support to the #RidgeRouteUltra yesterday. Thank you to our volunteers that showed up in the heat and gave it their all!

If you absolutely have to travel over the Grapevine/I-5 late tonight thru Thursday, be prepared for delays and have a winter emergency kit! Here's a look at the highway profile and where you might run into snow. #BePrepared #CAwx #LAweather
This is a great route profile showing not only Grapevine itself, but its relation to the #RidgeRoute between Castaic and Lebec.
Snow showers are likely along Interstate 5 above 3,500 feet this afternoon into this evening. An inch or two of snow could accumulate, which may cause significant travel delays. If you are traveling, allow plenty of time to reach your destination and exercise caution. #CAwx
The #RidgeRoute is one of the most beautiful and historic loops around Los Angeles. It's also fun to ride too.

Was I-5 #Grapevine named for original curvy #RidgeRoute or current interwoven freeway? Actually named Cañada de las Uvas, or Grapevine Canyon for wild grapes found in
1772 by Spanish explorer Don Pedro Fages. @calhistory

Going over the Ridge Route this Saturday. Rather excited. First time fully over the road in over 10 years. It helps to have keys to the gate. #RidgeRoute #history #roads
@militantangleno Regular traffic reports over the radio go back to the 1960's though. @KNX1070 had "You give us 22 minutes, we'll give you the world" in 1966. KFWB had similar going back a while too. Still, it certainly isn't #Grapevine. #RidgeRoute!
