For #FindsFriday this week, we're doing an #AppreciationPost for varied finds assemblages 😍
We've got fine pottery, we've got coarse pottery, we've got animal bone - what isn't there to like? What's your favourite object on our #TrayOfWonders?

Does anything beat that ‘fresh out of the ground’ feeling? Today’s #FindsFriday features this lovely #Roman pot base, just moments after it was pulled from an excavated section of a ditch! #HotOutOfTheOven

There's something special about digging a big excavation area and seeing the archaeological remains appearing as you go. Here, you can see the archaeology as dark brown lines and circles in the yellow ground.
Do you have any guesses as to what we're excavating?

Salve, friends, & happy #FindsFriday! Here’s a lovely sherd of #Roman #Samian ware pottery for you from #NorthYorkshire – with a maker’s mark stamp! The stamp says ‘CARIMA’, for the potter Carus iv, whose kiln was in Lezoux, Gaul and operated from AD 155-190. #RomanTwitter

It’s #FindsFriday! We’ve got a real treat – a #RomanoBritish #Antler rake from #Buckinghamshire. These tools were likely used for raking, hoeing, and clod-breaking, but may have also served as pitchforks for moving materials such as straw. #RomanTwitter #RomanHistory

We’ve got something pointy for this week’s #FindsFriday! This is a lovely #Roman copper alloy #brooch from #Northamptonshire. It is nearly entirely intact, with the pin still sticking up, and you can just about make out the coiled spring which it is attached to. #RomanTwitter

#Samian for your thoughts? For today’s #FindsFriday we’ve got three lovely sherds of #Roman Samian ware pottery, recovered from #Cumbria. Some of the decoration is still visible and we’ve got our ideas about what the images are, but what do you see? #RomanTwitter

A drop of water never stopped us! 😂 With some tactical bucketing, and a little help from his friends, Jamie was able to get his ditch excavation dried out and recorded.

Happy #FindsFriday everyone! Today we’ve got one freshly #FoundInTheGround - a lovely rim sherd of #Roman pottery recovered from a site in #NorthYorkshire 😍

A new article on our excavations at #Maryport #Cumbria is available #OpenAccess now! Read how our farmstead likely supplied the nearby #Roman Fort, giving a view of civilian life on the frontier.

We've been out digging big holes again! #TeamCFA is beginning the investigations into what is appearing to be a Romano-British era ditch (although we won't make any final determinations until we reach the base!). We're excited to see how deep it goes!

Salve fellows, and welcome to another delightful #FindsFriday! Today we’ve got a fragment of pale blue-green #Roman glass, representing part of a vessel’s body and handle base, which was recovered from Cumbria.

We're basking in the joy of a complete #Samain ware vessel! Our team has been excavating a #RomanoBritish site and recently came across this treasure. With lots of careful troweling, it came out in one complete piece. Definitely the #StarFind of the week!

Happy #Passover this #FindsFriday! Check out this #Roman rotary #quern fragment! This would have been used to grind grain to make flour for foods such as bread... or unleavened bread if you will! #Matzah

#FindsFriday we have a silver Denarius minted 69 AD under Emperor Vitellius. His reign lasted only 8 months, as Vitellius was quickly overthrown by his rival from the east, Vespasian. We think it's pretty cool that, despite this, the coin found its way to #England! #RomanTwitter

Happy #FindsFriday! Today we have this lovely sleek pin from a #RomanoBritish site in the sunny #midlands. We think this was used as a hair or dress pin. Ours is made of #Bronze but these trinkets were also made from wood, bone, ivory, or glass.

#Salve and happy #FindsFriday everyone, well done for making it through another week! We have a 1st to 2nd century ring-necked flagon, likely used to carry wine in #RomanBritain. Our example was recovered from #Northamptonshire. #RomanArchaeology #RomanTwitter #RomanoBritish

Hello #RomanTwitter! Where will I find more detailed info about the Roman military areas/zones talked about by Cunliffe? I guess more generally, info on the movement of the roman military in the 1st centuries BC/AD in Britain?
Merci buckets! 🙂
