#MineralConflict In Sierra Leone
The newly created Sierra Leone Mines and Mineral Development Corporation (SLMMDC) which has as it assets several deposits including the Kasafoni creates more conflict in the mining sector.
#SLMMDC is responsible to the #FinanceMinister while on the other hand are the Ministry of Mines and National Mineral Agency or NMA under the supervision of the Minister of Mines.
Information revealed that #SLMMDC has already signed contract with #MineralWealthFund as its asset manager and the later is also having a covert contract with an unknown company
#WorldBank has stated that while the country has made progress in reforming its legal framework for the mining sector with the Mines and Minerals Development Act 2023 which removes discretionary powers of key political and technical officials of regulatory ministries and agencies, but legal contradictions and inconsistencies remain.
In view of this, it but prudent for #SLMMDC to come out clean and explain to Sierra Leoneans why all this commotion in the mining sector.

#GentoGroup says the Sierra Leone Mines and Minerals Development Corporation contradicts provision of the Mines and Minerals Development Act which is Superior to the Statutory Instrument that creates #SLMMDC.
This came after the Corporation stated that they own #KasafoniDeposit for which #GentoGroup has signed a lease agreement with the three chiefdoms.
The Paramount Chiefs have said that this time around they want a local company in their land and that anybody who wants to invest must do so with #GentoGroup
