I made my #SPM3500 sport economics students read Crompton's (1995) article this week. I hope they use it in their economic impact papers...

For #SPM3500: starting to get into economic impact!
$850 million and 61% of the cost. Is this a fair deal for the taxpayers of Erie County and the State of New York?
Do you think that voters would approve this in a referendum at the county and state level?
A cost breakdown of the new Bills stadium, per @TheBuffaloNews:
💰 $600 million: State investment
💰 $350 million: Buffalo Bills
💰 $250 million: Erie County
💰 $200 million: NFL through G-4 loan program
This brings upfront public financing to $850 million — 61% of the cost.

@WalkerJRoss If the Broncos are sold for $4 billion it will raise the value of all the other NFL teams. The more money that is spent on the Broncos, the higher the price will be for other owners teams if sold. So, they will want the Broncos to be bought at the highest price possible. #spm3500
For #SPM3500: how convenient that this story is happening while we cover economic impact. Do you believe the reported economic loss by moving the MLB All Star Game?

For #SPM3500: in this offensive and damaging string of comments, what has economic concepts has Mather mentioned that we have covered in class thus far?

#SPM3500 this week I want you to create a meme on the topic of economic subsidies for sports. Your move.
Talkin' stadium subsidies in #SPM3500 this week. How appropriate given the timing?
Students: opine on the economic impact that will result from this subsidy. Be sure to relate to material from the chapter.

@WalkerJRoss #SPM3500 I believe that Jackie Robinson would be a deserving recipient for this award. He broke the color barrier in baseball and has led the way for many African American baseball players. He has multiple foundations for scholarships for African Americans to pursue college.
@WalkerJRoss #spm3500 I believe that Ann Meyers Drysdale would be deserving of this award. She was the women who really broke the sports gender barrier. Ann became the first women to ever sign an NBA contract, with the Indiana Pacers in 1979. Lastly she was the first women to broadcast NBA.

@WalkerJRoss Here you go #SPM3500 students, here is one that will get you bonus points! 😉 https://t.co/DW6NgW4idX
@WalkerJRoss #SPM3500 I believe ABC will most likely end up overpaying for these broadcasting rights, which will in turn force competitors to drive the price up as well. If ABC gets excluded, I think it would be beneficial for its competitors in the long run, as ABC is a major force here.
@WalkerJRoss #spm3500 I am most looking forward to learning about how much of a change occurs for a team when they have to change arenas. I wanted to learn more about what goes into the organizations decisions and how much it impacts sales etc.
@WalkerJRoss #SPM3500 The value of sport talent (Ch. 7) sounds most interesting to me. I think it will be cool to see how greater talent directly impacts the economic realm of an organization.
@WalkerJRoss #SPM3500 I’m interested in two chapters. I’m interested in sports gambling because that’s a subject that is always controversial and has two very different sides. I’m also interested in the history of pay. Every year athletes are breaking records with crazy new contracts.
Sport Economics #SPM3500 is back! For your first tweet: look over the chapters to be covered in class this semester. Which chapter interests you the most and why?
