@TonyParks7 Ch 3, A1: Nurturing a sense of community! Open ended questions allow our students to share their viewpoints, get to know one another better and develop empathy. This ties right into SS CARES! #SSWordPower @SilverSpringES
@TonyParks7 I asked my students to create different ways to make $1 using only coins and as we discussed different possibilities I keyed in on the word "different" to help students understand there's multiple answers. #SSWordPower @SilverSpringES
@TonyParks7 #SSWORDPOWER Using silence is powerful and I feel that I use wait time effectively. A challenge for me is slowing down my speaking rate. At times I catch myself talking too fast and need to remind myself to slow down. This will allow my students time to process the information!
@MissNealy_A1 @MrsBeecher. @MeredithVancos1 @MrsVergeCV. @MrsReidCV Thank you to everyone for participating thus far - i love the insights into building relationships with your students and how your ideas can spark a new initiative in someone else's classroom! #SSWordPower
@TonyParks7 A2: Use Well- Slow down my speaking pace with my students. Challenge- Voice overs. I often repeat what students have said in an effort for affirm their statements and make sure others have heard them. I'm working on having other students restate rather than myself. #SSWordPower
@TonyParks7 A1: Focus on action. Having students break down certain behaviors in concrete terms. Taking a few moments to have students name these behaviors before going into an activity has helped students have a better understanding of their expectations and be successful. #SSWordPower
Ahhh! Forgot #SSWordPower
@mrs_agilbert @TonyParks7 Ch1.A1: #2 The more we can show students that we believe in them the more they will believe in themselves and their abilities!
@jenna_clites @mrs_agilbert @TonyParks7 This is challenging for me as well. There is so much to “get through” in my 20-30 minutes with each group that I don’t take the time to listen to them as much as I should. This is something I strive to achieve! #SSWordPower
@TonyParks7 Ch 1, Q2: Listening to what students have to say builds respect and allows everyone to be heard. This is so importatnt in life that everyone feels like they have a voice and part of the community of learners. #SSWordPower
@mrs_agilbert @TonyParks7 This can sometimes be a challenge for me as I find myself "needing" to do so many things throughout the day, but I also need to remember the importance of listening--just as you said!! #SSWordPower
@TonyParks7 I can relate to guideline #2- Convey faith in children's abilites and intentions. Believeing in students is key for them to take risks in the classroom and know you care for them and will be there to help. #SSWordPower
@TonyParks7 Ch 1, Q2: Listen to what students have to say: Modeling listening skills is an important part of teaching children in the classroom and it carries over into being active listeners in their community. #SSWordPower
@TonyParks7 A3: “focus on action” instead of giving firm directions, modeling behaviors/expectations for your students gives them the ability to grow in their own abilities. Working together with your students to create a cohesive class allows them to feel included and respected #SSWordPower
@TonyParks7 Providing wait time: I like to give students the time to process information that they’ve heard and think about their answer, just like we want them to do in a conversation with a friend or adult—think before you speak! #SSWordPower
@TonyParks7 Ch1.A1: #2 Convey Faith in Children's Abilities and Intentions-We celebrate how different our brains work everyday to complete a problem/find a solution. Taking time to notice the positives encourages the students to continue working as the work gets harder. #SSWordPower
@TonyParks7 2. Convey faith in kiddos because that empowers the students to have confidence in themselves to complete tasks in the class and independently. The students are excited about their abilities to explore new innovating ideas within and outside the classroom #SSWordPower
