David Critchley spoke after a heartbreaking loss #STLvMNU “It felt like two different games…the first half was so good” - Says the first half was fantastic, have to be more ruthless and score more goals in the moments they had. - Came out a little passive in second half, Minnesota hurt #AllForCITY in the small moments. - Encourages bravery, score then keep pushing for another goal; still thinks the boys haven’t found that ruthlessness yet. - Says he is confused that Durkin got a red card, says often the penalty takes the priority and a red isn’t given; says it was a definite penalty, however. - Says Durkin is going to feel guilty, but it wasn’t entirely his fault with 3-4 small mistakes in pressing before that, saying Critchley was clear on instructions on when to press and it wasn’t not executed well. - Happy to get Sangbin and Padelford on the pitch. Says both had good moments. - Says they’ve faced a low-block, compact defense the last 2 weeks, so they knew they had to work the wide areas. Was very happy with that in the first half. Says Minnesota applied more wide pressure in the second half which opened space in the middle, but CITY didn’t adapt. - Says the team has to have a higher level of press and stay in rhythm. Also have to stop playing like they have something to lose after scoring; says they have nothing to lose with where they’re at in the standings. - Says execution in the big moments was the thing missing from tonight. Says CITY always underachieve their xG, good teams overachieve an xG like they had in the first half. - Says the hybrid fullbacks did well to cover that central space. Put on good counter pressure, which was a game plan only for this specific match. Worked swimmingly in first half. - Totland was sat just based on the tactics of this match, will Wallem playing a hybrid fullback/6

David Critchley spoke ahead of #STLvMNU - Chris Durkin is healthy! Nilsson, Wentzel, Kessler are the three unavailable (plus Alm). Morales, Pompeu healthy now as well. - Löwen going to start, might be on a minute cap; could leave at half - Says Sangbin and Padelford have been great this week, adjusting well. Won’t give it away if he will start or not. - Happy with how #AllForCITY bounced back this week in training despite a really poor loss this past weekend - Minnesota might play a low block at times, similar to Dallas. Identified ways to deal with it in this week’s training, learning from last weekend - Says the Team Pet candidates were fun to have around, brings a good environment - They’ve studied the last two matches against Minnesota as a staff, built moments into that. - On Baumgartl, said he’s in a good space. Says he made a mistake in Dallas, but the team put him in bad situations and both Timo and the team took accountability for their roles in those goals against. Says Timo did not lose the Dallas game for #stlcitysc - Says last weekend, services into the box were missing, that’s been an emphasis this week. - Says Sangbin brings 1v1 speed, timing, etc down the right wing, stretches the back line, scores goals, counter presses, hard working - On Padelford: great services into box, physically gifted, defends wide areas very well - Says he demands this team to perform to their best ability every week, even if in 5 weeks they might be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention
