๐๏ธ How can Uganda improve the administration of Rental Income Tax and Property Rates?
SEATINI, in collaboration with the @mofpedU , with financial support from the @IrlEmbUganda under the #STRIDeprojectUG, is convening a stakeholder validation meeting on the study on the simultaneous collection and management of Rental Income Tax and Property Rates in Uganda.
Rental Income Tax is administered by @URAuganda , while Property Rates are administered by Local Governments. The study examines how greater coordination between the two systems could improve tax administration, information sharing, compliance and revenue mobilisation while considering the roles and responsibilities of both institutions.
The validation meeting is focusing on:
๐น Validating the study findings, analysis and recommendations.
๐น Assessing the legal, institutional and administrative feasibility of simultaneous or harmonised administration.
๐น Examining implications for taxpayers, local revenue mobilisation and fiscal decentralisation.
๐น Reviewing and refining proposed policy and tax administration options.
๐น Identifying priority recommendations and a follow-up pathway for consideration and uptake.
The meeting brings together government institutions, Local Governments, private-sector representatives, academia, civil society and other stakeholders to provide evidence, practical experience and technical input.

After two days of peer-to-peer learning from Nansana and Mukono Municipal Councils, Local Government officials from 10 urban councils under the #STRIDEProjectUG are reflecting on key lessons from the exposure visits and translating these experiences into practical follow-up action plans.
Todayโs sessions focus on identifying what can be adapted and applied in their respective councils, agreeing on concrete actions, and strengthening commitments to improve local revenue management and systems across the participating urban councils.

Today, SEATINI , with support from the Embassy of Ireland under the #STRIDEProjectUG , together with Bushenyi District leadership, successfully launched and commissioned the Bushenyi District Integrity Committee.
The Committee brings together key stakeholders to champion ethical leadership, strengthen oversight, promote citizen participation, and enhance accountability in the management of public resources. Its establishment reflects a shared commitment to combating corruption and ensuring that local revenue mobilisation, allocation, and utilization translate into improved service delivery for citizens.

The training seeks to:

๐ฃ๏ธ๐ฐ As part of the ongoing #STRIDEProjectUG supported by the Embassy of Ireland, Today SEATINI held a community dialogue in Isingiro Town Council on the link between local revenue mobilisation and service delivery for improved livelihoods.
The dialogue brought together market vendors, business communities, local leaders, technical officers, and other stakeholders to discuss challenges and opportunities in local revenue collection, accountability, and utilisation.
Discussions focused on how locally generated revenue supports public services such as sanitation, street lighting, drainage systems, health and community services, while also exploring ways to strengthen transparency, taxpayer awareness, and citizen participation in local governance processes.
