While it is not officially recognized, today reminds us of the role iodine plays in public health and cognitive development, particularly in children.
EUsalt proudly supports #saltiodization as a key strategy in ensuring adequate iodine intake. Recent reports from the @WHO and the @iodineglobal indicate that, while the more visible signs of iodine deficiency have been reduced, there are concerns about a re-emergence due to dietary changes and a lack of iodine in Europeans’ diets.
Countries with mandatory salt iodization programs are generally iodine-sufficient, but many others still lack sufficient monitoring and intervention. EUsalt believes that the continued iodization of salt is vital to prevent the re-emergence of iodine deficiency and protect future generations.
