As #RepublicDay approaches, here's a @britishlibrary's 1905 photograph of the ORIGINAL #Sarnath Lion Capital, which became #NationalEmblem of #India in 1950, from #Kitchener of #Khartoum's collection presented to Maharaja of #Benares. Built by #Maurya king #Askoka in 3rd cent BC.
