I just learned that the mis-sexing in the NHS situation is even more dangerous than we thought it was. A colleague tried to figure out who changed the sex marker in the notes of a patient - young, vulnerable, suffering severe side-effects of cross-sex hormone therapy - and found that simply the letter from the GIC clinic stating that the patient wanted to be known as (insert opposite sex title, resulted in an admin in the GP practice changing the title to the opposite sex, which *automatically* changed patient’s sex on their file! No GRC, no, even, the patient actually requesting to be mis-sexed. The NHS IT systems seem to have been redesigned to be triggered by a mere whisper into messing up patient’s sex markers. So much is affected by this, for example, one cannot even hope to audit the effect of certain medications on women, or pick up inappropriate prescribing in women of child-bearing age, because nobody knows how many of them are wrongly recorded as male.
