I had a very interesting Teams meeting today with Welsh Government Officials about 'Single-use Flexible Plastic Straws' & 'wet wipes'. Discussed the impact banning these items would have on Disabled People. I rely on both of these items to live independently. #SaveOurStraws
Brilliant, thank you. #SaveOurStraws
@RosieMS @SeneddWales We most certainly will! We circulated a survey earlier this year in anticipation of the consultation & received an excellent response which will inform our submission
Thank you for your support Andrew @SheriffSouth

I can only hydrate independently by using flexible single-use plastic straws.
As a disabled person who can only drink independently using Single-Use Plastic Straws. I have been campaigning for them NOT to be banned ever. There simply can not be a blanket ban. WG please consult the experts AKA me & other disabled people #SaveOurStraws
@RosieMS Over to you.

Can we now go back to single-use flexible plastic straws, please? Even recyclable flexible straws. Hospitality providers NB you must still provide single-use flexible plastic straws, to customers who request them. #SupportDisabledPeople #SaveOurStraws #SOS https://t.co/aLheXiJ3s6
I know you feel better about yourself by ditching those evil plastic straws, but not everyone can. #SaveOurStraws https://t.co/5iQwahBboF
"Accomdates to any position. No other drinking tube has this"
Straws were invented for this purpose, and were never intended as a 'luxury'!
Even decades ago when straws were invented, it had peoples NEEDS at heart!
Some disabled people need straws! π #saveourstraws
We spent last summer explaining about #SaveOurStraws when we really wanted to do, well, anything else.
Please let's not do it again.
There are plenty of targets for reducing plastic waste which don't hurt disabled people. Leave the straws and the pre-prepared produce alone.
Didnβt we already do summer of the straw ban last year? Is this going to be an annual celebration because if so, can we skip it in favor of, idk, listening to disabled people & focusing our environmental efforts on something that doesnβt disproportionately affect disabled folks?
Please inform the hospitality industry, that Single-use flexible plastic straws are not banned, they are restricted & not allowed to be on display. However, anyone can ask for & should be given one on request. #SupportDisabledPeople #SaveOurStraws #SOS https://t.co/XUHmE8SIIS
I am so pleased to see the argument against paper straws being addressed by members of the community other than Disabled People. #SupportDisabledPeople #SaveOurStraws McDonald's fans claim there's a big issue with new paper straws. https://t.co/XHSzn82VOH
I finished my post! Please do read it all before you comment, if another person asks if I have tried reusable alternatives I may shoot myself π€¦ββοΈπ
