EOC fully supports the Govt policy on rationalization for reasons of reducing duplication & saving resources.
But strongly rejects the blanket approach of merging entities without considering historical justifications & the political significance of some entities
#SayNoToMerger

EOC is living up to its mandate of fighting discrimination & marginalization arising from the country's history which characterized with exclusion & discrimination of persons basing on their ability, gender, age, culture, origin political & geographical locations

Councils for special interest Groups such as Youth, Women, PWDs and older Persons are political bodies with elected leaders who have a five year term which cannot be compromised through merger.
#SayNoToMerger

Merger should be handled on case by case basis, whereas we support the Government policy on rationalisation for the reasons of reducing duplication & saving resources, we reject the blanket approach of merging every entity without looking at the historical......

We need to educate the youths,women,older persons and PWDs on the dangers the Country is soon landing into if this merger is not handled in a proper & legal way

Note: The objectives of rationalization is the reduction of Govt expenditure But analysis shows govt hasn't been spending much on these entities, since they largely rely on funding from development partners so what is there for Govt to save by merging EOC & UHRC
#SayNoToMerger

Gov't has not carried out a proper study to analyze the social economic & political cost of the merger. Gov't thinks it will save money, the social cost of exclusion of the marginalized people from participating in the governance process is difficult to imagine

The big question is; Has the Mischief that Led to the Creation of EOC, Councils for Special Groups Gone Away?
In our opinion, the challenges and reason that led to the creation of the Councils still exist.
#SayNoToMerger

The mischief that caused the creation of Equal opportunities Commission and all special interests groups has not yet been achieved.

They're saying NO to this merger because the mischief that caused the creation of EOC, Different Special groups council and UHRC hasn't gone away,
Unless this issue is handled with extra carefulness,
This merger is bound to cause more harm than good

The @EOC_UG & @UHRC_UGANDA are Constitutional bodies with mandates that were agreed upon by Ugandans. They were created because of the demand by the citizens of Uganda arising from the Country's history of marginalization & discrimination. #SayNoToMerger @Mglsd_UG @Parliament_Ug

By merging @EOC_UG with the Human Rights commission by repealing article 32 of the constitution symbolises the government's reversal of the affirmative action.

"If the Government was serious about reducing expenditure on public service/administration, it would not be promoting the policy of creating Districts,Cities, Municipalities and Constituencies which consumes more funding than some of these agencies" #SayNoToMerger
@EOC_UG

Government policy on rationalization should target wasteful expenditure and duplication of roles within the mainstream public sector including Cabinet,Parliament,Districts,Cities and the creation of so many Ministries and Departments within Ministries. #SayNoToMerger
@EOC_UG

One of the objectives of rationalization is apparently to reduce government expenditures. The Equal Opportunities Commission over the years, reveals that that the Government has not been spending a lot of money on the entities being merged. #SayNoToMerger

The leaders of the affected groups have today rejected this move. #SayNoToMerger
