Overly complex encryption results in cumbersome decryption, where a different key is required for every machine that #ScRansom compromised. Furthermore, it is impossible to restore some “encrypted” files, as parts of them are permanently destroyed. 3/7

Some builds of #ScRansom rely on the threat actor manually clicking buttons to execute the encryption process. We estimate, based on its tooling, that #CosmicBeetle does so through RDP combined with VPN access via previously obtained credentials. 6/7

#ScRansom, a custom Delphi-written ransomware utilized by #CosmicBeetle, emerged in late March 2023 with attacks in the wild starting no later than August. CosmicBeetle does not limit targeting to any specific vertical or country. 2/7
