IME awareness/training are compensation for design flaws or something we as technologists missed/haven't fixed. Phishing is a great example of this. (Though some phishing attacks have solutions today that are simple). #SecurityRealTalk
#securityrealtalk I'm actually less of a fan of education than you'd think. We've been trying training for decades, and it doesn't seem to work that well. What if it's the wrong answer? What if users didn't NEED to be "aware" and "trained" to be secure?
@msftsecurity Each step our industry takes to embrace diversity, the closer we become to future proofing bias in tech. #SecurityRealTalk
#securityrealtalk Thank you all! It's always a pleasure to hang out with Ann and @msftsecurity. Microsoft and @CiscoSecure are two great tastes that taste great together. We're kind of like the Reese's of security.

Thank you @wendynather @reybango @Unspeakable @msftsecurity @NataliaGodyla
@ajohnsocyber @wendynather @reybango @Unspeakable @msftsecurity @NataliaGodyla Thanks for organizing talk. #securityrealtalk
@msftsecurity A8: Get out of office/cubicle and meet people where they work. (Obviously pre-COVID). I enjoyed going to staff meetings, inter-department casual meetups. Whatever it took to learn the business and get folks to see me as an ally. #SecurityRealTalk

#securityrealtalk Always be questioning. It was usually a good idea at the time, but doesn't serve you any more, or your assumptions are invalid #zerotrust
A6: That my team was spending a lot of time/effort/resources on enforcing certain policies that were unnecessary or ineffective and so old no one knew who instituted them.

Q7: Weโve all had an 'ah-ha!' moment at work. What was yours? #SecurityRealTalk

@msftsecurity A8 #SecurityRealTalk Now this is tricky to explain in a public forum. Make as much noise as possible for the smallest error and discuss in board room ,make leadership responsible. Treat every incident as critical and document.

I keep my inbox clean. I respond to any email I can handle quickly then file it. I then focus on the ones that require investigation, documentation, research etc.
I apply this to complex security issues also - eliminate the simple first.
Q8: Share your work hacks! What's your favorite on-the-job trick? #SecurityRealTalk

@msftsecurity Q8: I know "hacks" are normally technical, but there are soft skill hacks too. Build personal relationships to help drive influence, listen to your audience -- it takes a village to make an organization secure. #SecurityRealTalk
#securityrealtalk A8: Naps. Definitely naps.

@Unspeakable Thanks, Charlynn! Do you see this happening anywhere today? How are we innovating to protect against inherent bias? #securityrealtalk
#securityrealtalk I should add here that empathy is great, but you can't always completely empathize with someone whose lived experiences are different from yours. WHICH IS WHY WE NEED DIVERSITY. You can't build for everyone by yourself.
Q8: Share your work hacks! What's your favorite on-the-job trick? #SecurityRealTalk

A6: Evolved from perception of being โDepartment of NOโ to a key collaborative team player not only with IT, but other areas of the business. Less police/punish and more protect/enable. #SecurityRealTalk
Q6: How have our roles as cybersecurity and IT professionals changed over time? #SecurityRealTalk

For example, what if security were as easy to use as a spoon? It's designed so well, you almost CAN'T use it the wrong way. It works the same way the world over. Nobody needs annual Spoon Awareness Training. Let's fix security design. #securityrealtalk
@msftsecurity A3: I like to think back to what @ajohnsocyber said during one of her @RSAConference keynotes: that our strongest factor is the human spirit. And by taking care of ourselves and each other, we form the basis of resilience. #mentalhealth #cybersecurity #SecurityRealTalk

I would say it was the realization that most users and companies are genuinely doing their best - they are overwhelmed. #Reducecomplexity
