But most disappointing is how @tribpub continues to deny recognition to #SentinelGuild, tho we have overwhelming support.
We should be negotiating. Instead we are blindsided.
Management has repeatedly told us a union can’t prevent layoffs. But @tribpub’s email today is hard proof that unions can negotiate layoffs and prevent further damage. And because the #SentinelGuild wasn’t recognized immediately, we’re left without protection as we cover COVID-19

The company is pursuing “cost savings” with its unionized newspapers, a.k.a. collective bargaining, an option the @orlandosentinel would have if @tribpub had voluntarily recognized us back in February when nearly 80% of the newsroom said it wanted the #SentinelGuild 🍊
We are excited to (again) have a date set, and are SO READY for this next process, where we will prove the overwhelming majority of the @orlandosentinel newsroom supports the #SentinelGuild🍊.
Votes will be counted May 12, when we will become legally recognized @newsguild unit!

Today the @OS_Guild would have unionized if its election wasn't delayed. During such an important time for local news, a strong #SentinelGuild is crucial. We continue to call on management to do right by their dedicated employees and readers and recognize their union.
Today would have been the day the @orlandosentinel voted to unionize.

As we work tirelessly covering a pandemic, @orlandosentinel reporters just got word from the National Labor Board that our #SentinelGuild mail-ballot election was postponed “indefinitely.”
This is devastating.
@tribpub, you can remedy this and voluntarily recognize us today.
With layoffs across industries, including ours, it's more important than ever to be protected.

Every day we delay recognizing the #SentinelGuild is one more day that Orlando Sentinel journalists are working without any employment protections at all – and another day closer to the potential takeover of Tribune by Alden Global Capital and threat of widespread layoffs.

The #SentinelGuild already has the support of nearly 80 percent of our newsroom – and we will advocate for protections for 100 percent of our newsroom when (not if) we are formally recognized.

The National Labor Relations Board announced yesterday that it has suspended all union elections – including mail ballot elections, like ours – until at least April 3, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The #SentinelGuild election had been set for March 25.

We are running ourselves ragged + risking infection every time we go on assignment. Yet @tribpub, who told us in mandatory anti-union meetings they didn’t recognize #SentinelGuild because the company wanted everyone’s voice to be heard in the election, is making it harder to vote
