On September 11, 2001, a tragic event occurred that needs no explanation. In February 2020, the United States signed the Doha Deal with the Taliban, a group that had partnered in the perpetration of that crime. Since August 2021, the U.S. has provided $40–60 million weekly to the Taliban. This ambiguous policy has undermined the narrative of counter-terrorism and raised serious questions about whether the U.S. exploited the 9/11 tragedy and the global sympathy and support it received to pursue malign geopolitical objectives, only to later reconnect with militant extremists. The Doha Deal has fundamentally altered the meaning and substance of both terrorism and counter-terrorism. Those who stood with the U.S. post-9/11 are now hunted, jailed, tortured, executed, and displaced in large numbers. The U.S. no longer carries the credibility of a reliable power. I was fighting the Taliban before 9/11 and continue the struggle for the liberation of my country after August 2021, no longer trusting the narrative of Washington, which has proven to be a total betrayal and deception.
