Michael #Shellenberger’s testimony to Congress in November 2024 raises serious concerns about government transparency and oversight in matters related to unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs).
He argues that the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) and intelligence agencies are WITHHOLDING critical information from Congress, bypassing laws that require them to disclose Special Access Programs (SAPs) involving potentially recovered nonhuman materials and technology.
Shellenberger points to legal loopholes and executive discretion as factors that allow the government to avoid full disclosure, undermining Congress’s oversight role.
Whistleblowers, including former intelligence officer David Grusch, claim the government has retrieved extraterrestrial materials and is working on secretive reverse-engineering projects.
They also allege that government retaliation against those who disclose such information creates a culture of fear that limits transparency.
Official bodies like the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) deny claims of concealed UAP technology, labeling them as rumors.
However, Shellenberger suggests that AARO’s dismissal contradicts credible witness testimonies and could be part of a disinformation strategy, similar to Cold War-era programs designed to debunk and discredit UAP sightings to the public.
Shellenberger advocates for the UAP Disclosure Act, which would require the government to release UAP-related records and materials for independent review, and for stronger protections for whistleblowers to ensure transparency.
He argues that this secrecy risks public trust and national security, as well as undermines democratic accountability. Ultimately,
Shellenberger urges Congress to act decisively to enforce transparency, revealing the truth about UAPs to restore public confidence and uphold democratic principles.
This testimony highlights the ongoing struggle between governmental secrecy and the public’s right to know, emphasizing that transparent handling of UAPs is essential for accountability and security.
