Last week, formerly detained leaders across the country spoke out against @POTUS's ICE detention system! Including #Colorado 🏔️
"Maria is proud to be on the other side now, advocating for what she believes is right." @CFIRofAFSC #ShutDownGEO

We will #shutdownGEO. Congratulations to the #ShutDownBerks coalition. We're inspired to keep fighting here in Colorado. https://t.co/aAFNl1SzGy
And detention everywhere. #ShutDownGEO We're inspired to keep fighting here in Colorado. https://t.co/aAFNl1BwEy
Let shutting down Berks be the beginning of the end of all forms of immigrant detention in Pennsylvania. @POTUS @VP @SecMayorkas We need community services not abusive systems. #ShutDownBerks #FreeThemAll #ShutDownBerks #FreeThemAll #ReleasesNotTransfers #CommunitiesNotCages
Shout out to @ShutDownBerks! This is a huge victory. Help to #ShutdownGeo by signing and sharing our petition widely. After Melvin Calero Mendoza suddenly died there in October, we are more determined than ever to end the contract. https://t.co/aAFNl1BwEy #FreeThemAll

Scoop: Essex County, NJ, is cancelling its long-standing and controversial contract to detain immigrants for ICE. It will move detainees out of its jail in Newark by August, ending what had become a political vulnerability for the all-Dem county board of commissioners. Story tk.
🚧GEO has also offered to repave roads,
Council Members note: feels very 'quid pro quo'
There seems to be reason to believe GEO was once again communicating with City Staff while their offices were closed, while other business apps were sent back b/c of the holidays 👀
A council member just questioned whether this could be perceived as a pay-to-play. 👀 #ShutdownGEO
TIL: "MITIGATION PAYMENT" aka the BED TAX is the money Adelanto gets for torture and exploited labor
Council Members want to know why Adelanto continues to receive payments despite having pull out of the contract providing GEO a service 🤔 because "GEO signed an agreement"
BTW GEO threatened to sue our staff 🤬

Despite strong community opposition, the McFarland City Council sided with a for-profit company to increase detention beds.
This shameful decision comes as hunger strikes are happening across California and cases of #COVID19 increase inside detention centers #ShutDownGEO
What a shameful meeting held by McFarland City Council. More than 800 public comments submitted and a petition of 1500 residents saying NO to GEO and they still voted against the community. We will continue to stand with McFarland residents. #ShutDownGeo #CommunitiesOverCages

This is the image of incompetent accomplices in the 7 deaths at #Adelanto who tonight voted for more deaths to continue at the hands of greedy capitalists. #Shame on you! #shutdownadelanto #ShutDownGeo
These are the men that sold the future of @CityofAdelanto to @GEOGroup . Share far and wide. From left to right: Terry Delgado, Daniel Ramos, @keronjones9, Ricky Rubalcaba! Shame on you! This will forever be your legacy! #ShutdownAdelanto
Still @CityofAdelanto WANTS TO EXPAND the detention center, finding a way out of their obligations to their communities by separating families! #ShutDownGEO #CommunitiesNotCages
So glad to have our McFarland victory tonight but don’t forget that Adelanto has their meeting tomorrow. Standing in solidarity with @IC4IJ and all the folks organizing in the IE! #ShutDownGEO
As we wait in McFarland with brave and fierce children and fieldworkers, we invite SoCal folks to join us tomorrow in Adelanto where the fight continues. It takes community power to oppose GEO’s desperate attempts in CA. Join us and let your voice be heard!✊🏾 #NoGEOinAdelanto
