A massive win for the sidebahs! 💪 After the Norfolk County DA asked Judge Cannone to “clarify” whether sidebar conferences from the Karen Read trials must be transcribed, the judge issued a decisive ruling: 🔹 All sidebar conferences before and during both trials must be transcribed 🔹 All transcripts must be made publicly available 🔹 Only sidebars involving jurors or juror issues will remain impounded This ruling lands directly after Attorney Corri Hopkins filed a civil suit accusing the DA’s office of unlawfully refusing to release these transcripts. And with one order, Judge Cannone just demolished the DA’s entire excuse for withholding them. Their hands are no longer “tied.” Once transcribed, these records must be released. With the DA’s core argument now obliterated, Hopkins is in an extremely strong position to obtain both trial transcripts (minus juror references). A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday in the civil case, and Cannone’s ruling leaves the DA with no meaningful defense. The civil judge will almost certainly set a production deadline. This ruling exposes: ➡️ The DA never had a legitimate reason to withhold the transcripts ➡️ Their legal position in the civil suit was incorrect ➡️ Their “Motion to Clarify” is even more suspicious since it didn't appeared on the Read docket until after the DA's filing ➡️ Personal attacks on Hopkins look retaliatory, not legal ➡️ Their refusal to produce public records now appears improper Cannone’s order wipes out the DA’s opposition, strips away any legal justification for continued secrecy, and positions Hopkins to win her preliminary injunction next week. If the transcripts are being created, and ordered to be made public in the criminal case, the DA has zero basis to refuse them in the civil case. This is a massive win for Hopkins, for transparency, and for the public. 🙌
