After building something, the best you can do is share what you've learned.
Our CTO Michael Schmidt started working on #simplyblock about 5 years ago. A storage solution built around the idea of modern standards such as NVMe devices and #NVMe over TCP and #RDMA. Gone are the days of old technology, such as #iSCSI.
Building a distributed storage for ultra-low-latency storage devices comes with its own challenges, though. Suddenly, you find yourself thinking about filling parallel I/O queues, stacking operations, and finding solutions for the new #bottleneck, the network.
People typically condemn premature optimization. And they're not wrong. But building such a solution has you start thinking about performance and potential optimizations early on. Every afterthought will cost a lot of refactoring and rewriting.
